Position Title: Program Coordinator
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Exempt, Full Time (1.0 FTE)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, primarily daytime hours with occasional evenings, overnight, and weekend travel
Location: Remote position based in Southeast South Dakota, with moderate travel within southeast South Dakota and statewide
Position Summary: The Program Coordinator supports the mission of SESD AHEC by coordinating programs and activities that recruit, educate, and connect participants with rural healthcare workforce opportunities. This position serves as the primary point of contact and coordinator for program events, activities, participants, and community partners. The role requires strong organizational, communication, relationship-building, and project coordination skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple programs, priorities, and deadlines. The Program Coordinator works closely with rural healthcare facilities, educational institutions, community organizations, and other partners throughout South Dakota to create meaningful healthcare career exploration and workforce development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Participant Recruitment
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract participants to SESD AHEC programs
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, colleges, healthcare organizations, community organizations, and other partners.
- Coordinate and deliver recruitment presentations to classrooms
- Represent SESD AHEC at career fairs, college fairs, health career fairs, conferences, community events, and other outreach opportunities
- Communicate with prospective participants and provide information about SESD AHEC programs
- Develop and manage program applications, surveys, and recruitment materials
Participant and Placement Coordination
- Coordinate program development, participant communication, and required documentation
- Coordinate participant onboarding, orientations, schedules, and program requirements
- Coordinate participant placements with rural healthcare organizations
- Serve as the primary liaison for participants ensuring clear communication and expectations
- Conduct participant and placement site visits as needed to support participants, maintain site relationships, and ensure programs are operating successfully
- Maintain accurate and confidential participant records and assist with program reporting
Program Delivery
- Coordinate and support the implementation of SESD AHEC programs, including career exploration camps, webinars, rural clinical experiences, disaster preparedness education, virtual reality activities, and other workforce development programs.
- Coordinate event logistics, including facilities, supplies, speakers, registration, schedules, and participant communication
- Work with healthcare professionals, educators, and community partners to provide meaningful and hands on experiences
- Maintain program and participation records
- Assist with program evaluation, reporting, and continuous program improvement
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and other staff to support SESD AHEC programs, organizational priorities, and special initiatives
- Perform other duties consistent with the mission of SESD AHEC.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience working with students, healthcare organizations, workforce development, non-profit organizations, recruitment, or community programs preferred
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects, work independently, and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other common platforms
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Travel: Moderate day travel is required predominantly in South Dakota; some out-of-state travel may be necessary. Employee must maintain a current SD driver's license and possess reliable transportation and current vehicle liability insurance.
Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to perform essential job functions, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and use computer and office equipment. Occasional bending, twisting, pushing, carrying, and/or moving objects up to 50 pounds may be required.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $51,000.00 per year
