Full Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, transportation activities, drivers, and dispatch personnel. This position serves as the primary point of contact for fleet-related operations and ensures safe, efficient, and compliant transportation services. The Fleet Manager provides leadership to the G.O. Transportation team through effective recruiting, training, coaching, process improvement, and adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead recruiting, onboarding, training, and development efforts for G.O. Transportation employees.
Supervise, coach, and provide guidance to drivers and dispatch personnel while ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Monitor transportation operations to ensure proper performance, safety practices, and efficient use of resources.
Develop and maintain efficient transportation routes to maximize productivity and operational effectiveness.
Maintain and verify accurate records related to employee time, materials, expenditures, vehicle activities, and transportation operations.
Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, hazardous material transportation requirements, industry standards, and company safety policies.
Identify and proactively manage operational risks while implementing solutions to improve safety, efficiency, and service quality.
Prepare, compile, and submit reports related to operations, production, work activities, incidents, and vehicle-related accidents.
Address employee concerns, assist with problem resolution, and promote a positive and productive work environment.
Schedule and coordinate preventative maintenance, repairs, and service needs for fleet vehicles.
Ensure all fleet vehicles remain properly licensed, insured, maintained, and compliant with applicable regulations.
Track and analyze fleet performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
Recommend and implement improvements related to employee performance, equipment reliability, operational processes, customer service, and workplace safety.
Assist with developing and maintaining vendor relationships, including fleet maintenance providers and other transportation-related suppliers.
Collaborate with leadership on vendor strategies, negotiations, and fleet service agreements.
Support fleet budget development and assist with cost management initiatives.
Organize and lead fleet safety meetings on an annual, semi-annual, and/or quarterly basis.

Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge of DOT regulations and requirements related to transportation and hazardous materials.
Understanding of loading and delivery procedures, refined fuel storage, transportation, and delivery operations.
Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to supervise and motivate employees.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to analyze information, identify opportunities, and implement process improvements.
Strong technology skills with the ability to learn and utilize new software systems.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required.
Previous fleet management, transportation, logistics, or related experience required.
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field preferred.

Hours/Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with occasional after-hours and weekend on-call responsibilities. As the dispatch team expands, weekend on-call duties will become part of a rotating schedule shared among Dispatchers and Fleet Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
