The Role
This is a leadership role for someone who is not just technically strong, but capable of helping build the tax function, strengthen operations, lead people, and increase delivery capacity at a higher level.
This role is about helping transform tax delivery from a founder-dependent function into a scalable operating capability. That means stronger review systems, better workflows, better team accountability, clearer SOPs, and higher confidence in execution across planning and compliance.

Requirements & ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities
· Lead the tax function across planning, review, and compliance delivery
· Review complex individual and business tax returns with a high level of accuracy and professional judgment
· Oversee and improve proactive tax planning execution for high-income clients
· Build, refine, and document scalable tax workflows, systems, and SOPs
· Strengthen quality control and reduce unnecessary founder involvement in fulfillment
· Manage, develop, and hold accountable members of the tax team
· Create better visibility into workload, delivery timelines, bottlenecks, and team performance
· Partner with leadership to improve operational efficiency and scale capacity
· Identify breakdowns early and solve them before they become expensive
· Help build a tax department that can scale with growth rather than resist it
· Mentor team members and elevate overall technical and leadership capability
· Provide clear, actionable feedback that helps team members learn, grow, and perform at a higher level
Requirements
· CPA or EA required
· At least 5 years of leadership experience in a tax or public accounting environment
· Significant experience reviewing tax returns and leading delivery quality
· Strong understanding of both tax compliance and proactive tax planning
· Demonstrated success managing people, improving accountability, and elevating standards
· Experience building or improving systems, workflows, and operational processes
· Strong decision-making ability and confidence operating in a growing environment
· Ability to lead through change, not hide from it
· Must complete tax and personality assessment
· Knowledge of LaCerte is a plus
· Bachelor’s degree required

· Improve key processes, communication flow, and team coordination
· Increase clarity around workload, deadlines, ownership, and bottlenecks
· Begin implementing stronger review standards, accountability measures, and workflow improvements
· Reduce friction in delivery and strengthen confidence across planning and compliance execution
· Improve team communication and elevate day-to-day operating discipline
By 90 Days
· Establish a structured format for mentoring and developing the team
· Create a stronger leadership rhythm that helps team members improve themselves and perform at a higher level
· Provide consistent, actionable feedback to help team members learn and grow
· Strengthen SOPs, review systems, and quality control processes
· Help create a more capable, accountable, and scalable tax function that supports firm growth
