Full Job Description

Job Summary

UWork is looking for a dynamic and strategic Chief Operating Officer for a business in the downtown Mobile area. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can balance strategy with day-to-day execution and who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, client-focused environment. You'll own the business infrastructure that lets the business operate efficiently, scale smoothly, and deliver a great experience for clients and employees, with leadership across operations, people, finance and administration, technology, vendors, and strategy. Above all, this is a people role: the person we hire will lead and coach the team, build the culture, and be the steady, trusted hand others look to. You'll have real, meaningful influence over the business's operations, culture, growth, and long-term strategy.

Duties

Run and coordinate day-to-day operations across the business, its offices, departments, and functions.
Build, implement, and keep improving the systems, processes, policies, and accountability that support growth.
Read staffing needs, capacity, structure, and succession, and plan ahead.
Full-cycle recruiting: sourcing, screening, interviewing, hiring recommendations, offers, and onboarding.
Keep a pulse on engagement, retention, morale, and culture, and act to strengthen the employee experience.
Manage vendors, service providers, and consultants; evaluate and negotiate agreements.
Coordinate technology initiatives, systems, and issue resolution.
Support budgeting, expense oversight, payroll, benefits, and operational reporting.
Track KPIs and other business metrics and turn the numbers into insight leadership can act on.
Be a trusted advisor and thought partner to leadership on operational, people, and business matters.
Size up business and operational challenges, find the root cause, and develop practical fixes.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in business, management, HR, finance, organizational leadership, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Significant, progressive experience in operations, administration, HR, or professional-services management.
A track record leading recruiting, employee relations, and administrative operations.
Experience building operational systems, processes, and policies, and managing vendors and service providers.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making, excellent communication, and the judgment to handle confidential matters and build trust with leaders and staff.

Extra Qualifications (not required)

7+ years of progressively responsible experience in operations, business administration, HR, or professional-services management.
Time as a COO, Director of Operations or Administration, Business Manager, Office Manager, HR Manager, or similar senior role.
Experience in a professional-services organization, such as an accounting or CPA firm, consulting firm, healthcare or medical practice, or similar.
Experience supporting a growing or multi-office organization and advising owners or senior leaders.
Financial management, budgeting, payroll, benefits, and performance reporting; and leading growth, restructuring, integration, or change initiatives.
An MBA or other advanced degree is a plus but not required.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
