As the Communications Associate for the South Alabama Land Trust (SALT), you’ll help protect the natural beauty, wildlife, and coastal landscapes that make Alabama’s Gulf Coast such an incredible place to live.
This is your chance to use your skills in storytelling, design, social media, and event planning to spark real change — and to bring fresh, exciting ideas to a growing, nationally accredited conservation nonprofit.
You’ll work directly with SALT leadership, collaborate with a passionate board and team, and become a key voice for land conservation across coastal Alabama.
What You’ll Do (and Why It’s Awesome)
Lead SALT’s Signature Events
You’ll take the reins on the Bald Eagle Bash — one of the region’s most beloved fundraising events — plus other outreach and community gatherings. You’ll handle everything from planning and budgeting to sponsorship fulfillment, volunteer coordination, marketing, ticket sales, and day‑of leadership. Your work will include overseeing online If you love fast‑paced, creative event work, SALT is for you.
Shape SALT’s Story
You’ll manage the full production of The SALT Line, our biannual 20–30 page magazine. That means project management, design/layout (InDesign), and working with writers and printers. Your work will help thousands of readers understand why conservation matters.
Connect with Our Community
You’ll write and design SALT’s monthly email newsletters and other communications with donors, members and others using Constant Contact and related platforms. You’ll help keep SALT’s supporters informed, inspired, and engaged throughout the year by coordinating events that get people outdoors and connected to the natural world — nature walks, nature/science talks, casual socials, and more. You’ll represent SALT at local events, connect with volunteers and supporters, and build relationships with the community.
Own Our Social Media Presence
Participate in the development of SALT’s social media strategy. Design and deliver engaging social media content consistent with the strategy. You’ll collaborate with colleagues, experiment with new ideas, and build a digital presence that reflects the energy and importance of our mission.
Oversee Digital Marketing and Analytics
You'll monitor and evaluate performance across email, website, social media, and event marketing channels. Using data and insights, you'll help improve audience engagement, event attendance, memberships, fundraising results, and overall brand visibility.
Keep Our Website Fresh
You’ll write and maintain website content that’s clear, compelling, and up to date. You'll help manage online event registrations, membership transactions, and digital content through platforms such as WordPress, WooCommerce, and related tools.
Run Our Annual Nature Photography Contest
You’ll coordinate communications, submissions, and promotion for one of our most popular community programs.
Bring New Ideas to the Table
You’ll advise SALT leadership on creative ways to boost SALT’s visibility and reach new audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, and Graphic Design or related field plus 1-2 years of relevant experience. In lieu of the education requirement, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any field and 3 years of relevant experience in outreach and communications.
- Evidence of strong project management skills (planning, scheduling, budgeting).
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a small team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
- Experience with InDesign, Canva, EventBrite, WordPress, WooCommerce and website content management systems.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong storytelling, editing, and content creation skills.
- Photography, videography, and visual content creation experience.
- Ability to thrive in a small, mission-driven team.
- A love for the outdoors and an interest in land conservation.
- Familiarity with CRM or donor database platforms.
Compensation & Benefits
· Salary: $35,000 - $45,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

· Simple IRA with up to 3% employer contribution after one year.

· Position based in Fairhope, Alabama; on‑site presence required.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
