Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Manufacturing Operations Manager to lead our manufacturing operations with energy and precision. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of plant performance, ensuring seamless production processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Duties
- The Manufacturing Operations Manager has to look after the entire workings of the manufacturing plant.
- Is responsible for ensuring that the product being manufactured meets the company’s standards, policies and practices.
- Has to keep the budget under control and make sure that it does not go against the company’s standard practices.
- Has to involve in the annual business planning and budgeting of the manufacturing plant.
- Has to confer with senior management to ensure that manufacturing objectives are being met.
- Planning, directing, and coordinating the manufacturing of products in compliance with company goals and objectives.
- Establishing and controlling conditions of production in order to satisfy customer and quality specifications.
- Directing the manufacturing supervisors and managers in provision and execution of operating strategies and plans.
- Organizing and directing workflow for satisfying production requirement in a cost-efficient manner.
- Developing and motivating the cost-effective alternatives and improvements to production process.
- Maintaining employee safety and morale by creating safe working and efficient working environment.
- Managing the purchasing, stock control, distribution, production-scheduling tasks for multiple manufacturing machines.
- Maintaining proper employment levels through selecting, interviewing, and training of personnel.
- Liaising with the product line manager on planning and predicting customer orders to satisfy shipments.
- Maximizing the efficiency of production lines and ensuring the effective labor utilization.
- Developing, evaluating, improving and documenting manufacturing processes.
- Developing and implementing process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments.
- Analyzing manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancements of quality, cost reduction, and throughput.
- Collaborating with configuration control and design engineering regarding product tooling and design to ensure effectual production methods.
- Conferring with vendors in determining product specifications and arranging equipment, parts, or material purchase, and evaluating products according to quality standards and specifications.
- Estimating staffing requirements, production times, and relative costs to provide data for operational decisions.
- Working closely with senior management and the Quality Control department to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees.
- Designing and developing manufacturing processes for enhancements, product changes, and new products, and tooling that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost.
- Creating and maintaining accurate documentation of tool drawings, shop orders, and concepts in accordance with the R&D and quality assurance functions.
- Providing engineering support in production department to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems.
- Coordinating work with tool room personnel, assigned technicians, and outside vendors.
- Supporting company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, FDA regulations, and goods manufacturing practices.
- Assuring the highest level of talent is attained in each position to maximize results, make adjustments as needed for low performing talent and provide a robust talent assessment program that encompasses training, hiring and evaluations.
Objectives
Safety
- Provide technical guidance for the creation of equipment specific LOTO procedures
- Enforce all safety guidelines in all departments
- Train all maintenance, operators and packers in all safety rules
- Solicit participation in the safety committee
- Enforce all PPE within the departments
- Ensure all machines have adequate guarding
Quality
- Determine critical process control points via process mapping (cycle, heats, timers, run sheets…)
- Development of control plans with the Quality Control Department
- Ensure training of operators and inspectors in the use of the control plans and related procedures and work instructions
- Ensure the procedures and work instruction described in the control plans are followed
- Develop corrective action plans
- Ensure the corrective actions are implemented and followed
- Ensure the First Article Qualification procedure is followed
PRODUCTION
- Determine the right skill set and profile for the plant’s operators and maintenance personnel.
- Conduct a baseline assessment of all employees to determine gaps from the ideal skill set and profile and develop action plans accordingly.
- Ensure appropriate testing and assessments for job applicants are conducted prior to hiring new employees.
- Conduct periodic reviews of the candidate screening process to ensure it is effective and make appropriate adjustments as necessary
- Provide necessary training to ensure operator and maintenance training is effectively executed
- Review individual training action plans and monitor progress
- Provide operators appropriate resources to complete action plans
- Develop technical candidate screening process for plant
- Provide suggestions on methods to improve the plant training program
- Ensure maintenance and operator personnel participate adequately in the training programs.
- Oversee execution of plant training program
MAINTENANCE
- Ensure PM is performed according to planned schedule and frequency
- Approve of the delay or cancellation of any scheduled PM
- Assure stock inventory of current parts
- Track parts through excel or parts software
- Assure monthly inventories are taken to reconcile parts shrinkage
- Provide pareto analysis of high use/cost parts and use CI tools to minimize usage
- Identify shrinkage issues and implement corrective actions
- Conduct periodic reviews of min/max levels for accuracy
- Utilize appropriate maintenance measures to drive continuous improvement efforts
- Maintain equipment history on all pieces of machinery
- Identify and list critical spare parts
Continuous Improvements
- Identify core issues for continuous improvement in quality improvement, efficiency improvement, and waste reduction
- Lead continuous improvement teams, as appropriate
Plant Metrics
- Report production data and measurements for Maintenance and Production at the appropriate frequency
- Input required data into excel or software
5S Work Place Organization
- Develop a specific program for Maintenance, Operators and production and ensure all components are completed on time
- Obtain all necessary supplies/materials
- Ensure events will not interfere with daily production (choose appropriate cleaning times, build safety stock as appropriate, etc.)
- Photograph selected areas before and after event for documentation
- Ensure standardized procedures to maintain improvements are effective (with help from team), e.g. checklists for operators
Skills and Specifications
- Leadership skills are an important pre–requisite for the Manufacturing Operations Manager.
- Should also have very good organizational skills to constantly keep in touch with various departments of Sage Plastics, Inc.
- Should have good analyzing skills as well.
- Should be a problem – solver and be able to grasp the problem at hand and take quick steps to resolve it.
- Proficiency in financial matters is also important to be successful in this profession because a lot of this job entails meeting the budget requirements of the plant.
Education and Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree preferably in engineering is important for persons who want to become a manufacturing operations manager because of the wide range of mechanics and technicalities involved. A person who has degree in management along with engineering will have an edge over the others. Knowledge about the industry
Pay: $94,283.89 - $120,000.00 per year
