Job Summary:

The Survey Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of survey projects, from inception to completion. This role includes managing project timelines, budgets, resources, and client relationships, ensuring that survey projects are executed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Survey Project Manager will coordinate and supervise the survey team, provide technical leadership, manage project costs, and serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is an experienced surveyor with strong leadership, organizational, and client management skills, who can oversee complex projects while ensuring high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of survey projects from start to finish, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Develop detailed project scopes, objectives, and work plans, ensuring proper resource allocation and task delegation.
Oversee project performance, ensuring that field operations, data collection, and office work meet or exceed project expectations while staying within budget.
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and addressing any concerns.
Communicate directly with clients to clarify project goals, address changes in scope, and ensure alignment with expectations.
Manage client relationships, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring satisfaction with project deliverables.
Develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses for labor, equipment, and materials, and ensuring projects stay within financial parameters.
Manage project schedules, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and project milestones are achieved.
Ensure all survey activities comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards (e.g., ALTA/NSPS, land title surveys).
Maintain documentation of survey activities, ensuring proper record-keeping in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Supervise and lead survey teams, ensuring team members are aligned with project goals and understand their responsibilities.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior surveyors, technicians, and field staff, ensuring proper training on advanced surveying techniques, safety protocols, and data collection methods.
Foster a positive work environment that promotes safety, accuracy, and efficiency in both field and office settings.
Review and approve survey deliverables, ensuring they meet or exceed quality standards and project requirements.
Assist in preparing project proposals, bids, and cost estimates for new survey work, ensuring scope alignment with client needs and project requirements.
Contribute to business development efforts by identifying new survey opportunities, maintaining relationships with current clients, and supporting company growth initiatives.

Qualifications:

Experience: 5+ years of specific Department of Transportation (LADOTD) survey experience or experience in land surveying, with at least 3 years in project management or lead surveyor role. Advanced experience in preparing survey reports, drawings, and other project documentation for client and regulatory review.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field preferred. Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) or Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required.
Technical Skills: Extensive technical knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and equipment, with proficiency in total stations, GPS units, and survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS) and field equipment.
Communication: Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead a team, mentor junior staff, and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
Organizational Skills: Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to perform complex data analysis, process survey data, and provide recommendations based on findings.
Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make decisions in the field and office, adapting to changes in project needs and conditions.

Physical Requirements:

Comfortable working outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions.
Frequent walking, standing, kneeling, and bending in both field and office settings.
Ability to work extended hours, including weekends and/or evenings, as necessary (based on project demands).
Ability to lift and move heavy survey equipment and materials (over 50 pounds).
Ability to stand, walk, kneel, sit, and perform physical activities for extended periods.
