A Pole Barn Apprentice is an entry-level construction team member who supports the crew in the erection of post-frame (pole barn) structures. This position is physically demanding, travel-intensive, and requires a strong work ethic, coachability, and commitment to jobsite safety and production standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist in site preparation and layout
- Material staging and inventory handling
- Post setting and framing assistance
- Truss setting support
- Metal panel installation (roofing and siding)
- Door and window installation assistance
- Fastening, drilling, cutting, and general carpentry tasks
- Jobsite cleanup and organization
- Tool and equipment maintenance
- Ability to lift and carry 50–100 lbs repeatedly
- Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and working overhead
- Ability to work at heights (ladders, trusses, roof systems)
- 8–12 hour workdays are standard during peak build season
Continuous standing and manual labor required
Qualifications
- Show up on time and prepared for work daily
- Follow directions from Crew Leader and Foreman
- Maintain a positive attitude in physically demanding conditions
- Demonstrate willingness to learn post-frame construction techniques
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and PPE requirements
- Work efficiently as part of a team to meet production deadlines
Professional Conduct
- Represent the company professionally on customer job sites
- Respect coworkers, supervisors, and client property
- Maintain drug-free work performance
- Follow all company policies and DOT travel guidelines
- Follow directions from Crew Leader and Foreman
Travel Requirements
- Frequent out-of-town travel is required
- Overnight stays are common (multiple nights per week depending on project location)
- Work assignments may be located anywhere within the company’s service region
- Must be willing and able to travel in company vehicles and work extended periods away from home
- Occasional early departures and late returns should be expected
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction in all weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)
- Uneven terrain, rural job sites, and undeveloped ground conditions
- Exposure to loud noise, heights, dust, and heavy equipment
- Fast-paced, production-driven environment
