Full Job Description

General Job Description:

Monitor and oversee compliance with all local, state and federal environmental permit requirements. Manage the collection of data and samples for compliance with air, water and soil quality reporting requirements. Prepare and submit all compliance reports by established deadlines. Manage and coordinate compliance evaluations with outside businesses such as testing laboratories and testing contractors. Ensure that all emissions monitoring and treatment systems are operating properly, and, ensure plant reliability and compliance with all permit testing, and reporting requirements, develop recommendations to maintain and improve reliability, environmental compliance and safety as needed.

Primary Managerial Responsibilities:

*Manage the operation and maintenance of facility environmental equipment and provide recommendations for equipment selection and/or replacement. Retrieve/maintain environmental emissions data and compile data for environmental compliance reporting, prepare environmental compliance reports, and ensure that such reports are submitted and filed in a timely manner.

* Responsible for accuracy of raw data gathered for emissions reporting (SO2, CO, NOx, Hg) as well as wastewater, ash and ground water for facility and the ash landfill permit compliance.

*Act as a resource to facility staff to operate and maintain continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS), mercury sorbent trap monitoring/control system (CMM) and emissions data acquisition system (DAS).

*Act as a resource for maintaining the necessary spare parts inventory for mercury sorbent trap monitoring/control system (CMM) and plant continuous emissions monitoring/control system (CEMS), and DCS system interface with emissions control.

* Conduct and gather field data and samples for environmental compliance.

* Prepare and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, and other visual aids.

*Assist plant staff with maintenance, installation and calibration of electrical devices, controllers, electrical components, electric motors, environmental control, materials handling, machine tools, steam turbine auxiliary components, generators, boiler auxiliaries and instrumentation, heat transfer, energy conversion, and low, medium and high voltage switchgear.

* Support and maintain professional relationships with plant vendors and contractors.

* Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

*Ensure all safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times.

* Set department goals and objectives.

* Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Aptitudes:

* Must possess high degree of electrical, mechanical, and process aptitude and ability to use algebra, geometry or shop math.

* Ability to interpret instruction and use logic to solve concrete problems, write reports with proper grammar, and communicate in English with co-workers and the public.

* Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

May require lifting up to 70 pounds with frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Required to climb ladders and stairs, and work on scaffolding. Must be able to work at heights. Frequent bending, stooping, and lifting heavy objects. Indoors/outdoors. Extreme cold and high ambient air conditions can exist. Exposure to mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, radiant heat, toxic chemicals, and fumes and dust from limestone/coal/boiler ash distribution. Certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment, as well as mandatory hard hats, safety glasses, and hearing protection for lengthy periods.
