Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist (Independent Contractor) provides pediatric occupational therapy evaluation and intervention services to infants and young children with developmental delays or disabilities participating in California's Early Start Program and other approved funding sources. Services are provided in accordance with the terms of the Independent Contractor Agreement, applicable federal and state laws, California occupational therapy practice standards, payer requirements, and Chiu Chiu Train Therapy policies.

The Occupational Therapist exercises independent clinical judgment and is responsible for the evaluation, treatment planning, implementation of intervention, caregiver education, documentation, and professional decision-making within the scope of occupational therapy practice.

Scope of Services

The Occupational Therapist may provide services including, but not limited to:

Developmental evaluations
Occupational therapy assessments
Sensory processing assessments
Fine motor and visual motor assessments
Oral motor and feeding assessments, when clinically appropriate and within the therapist's competency
Self-help and adaptive skills assessments
Individual occupational therapy intervention
Parent and caregiver coaching
Consultation with interdisciplinary team members
Discharge planning and recommendations

Services are provided primarily in the child's natural environment, including homes, community settings, daycare, or other authorized locations.

Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for:

Conducting comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations using appropriate standardized and clinical assessment tools.
Developing individualized treatment plans based on evaluation findings, family priorities, and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) outcomes, when applicable.
Providing evidence-based occupational therapy interventions that support functional participation in daily routines.
Addressing areas including fine motor development, visual motor integration, sensory processing, self-help skills, feeding, oral motor skills, play skills, motor planning, postural control, and adaptive functioning as clinically indicated.
Providing caregiver education, coaching, and home program recommendations to support skill development between therapy visits.
Maintaining timely, accurate, and professional clinical documentation, including evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, discharge summaries, and other required records.
Submitting documentation, invoices, billing records, and other required materials within established contractual timelines.
Communicating appropriately with families, Service Coordinators, physicians, and other authorized professionals regarding client progress and recommendations, while maintaining confidentiality.
Collaborating with Chiu Chiu Train Therapy regarding referrals, scheduling coordination, documentation requirements, and quality assurance activities.
Maintaining compliance with HIPAA, mandated reporting laws, infection control practices, professional ethics, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Maintaining current professional licensure, certifications, continuing competency, and all credentials required to perform contracted services.
Providing services in a professional, ethical, family-centered, and culturally responsive manner.
Performing services consistent with the Independent Contractor Agreement and within the scope of occupational therapy practice.

Minimum Qualifications

The Occupational Therapist must possess:

Current, unrestricted California Occupational Therapist License.
Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program.
Current CPR and First Aid certification for infants and children.
Current TB clearance, as required by California regulations.
Criminal background clearance meeting all applicable regulatory requirements.
Valid California driver's license.
Reliable transportation for travel to client service locations.
Current automobile insurance meeting California minimum requirements.
Ability to independently manage a caseload and complete documentation in a timely manner.
Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

Pediatric occupational therapy experience.
Experience providing Early Start intervention services.
Knowledge of Infant Development Program and Regional Center systems.
Experience working with children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing differences, feeding difficulties, and other pediatric diagnoses.
Experience providing family coaching using evidence-based intervention models.
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, or other languages commonly spoken within the communities served by Chiu Chiu Train Therapy.

Professional Requirements

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for maintaining throughout the contract period:

Current California Occupational Therapist License in good standing.
Current professional liability (malpractice) insurance, if required under the Independent Contractor Agreement.
Current CPR and First Aid certification.
Current TB clearance.
Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
Compliance with all continuing education and license renewal requirements.
Compliance with HIPAA, California mandated reporting laws, and all applicable professional standards.

Clinical Independence

The Occupational Therapist is an independently licensed healthcare professional and is solely responsible for exercising independent clinical judgment in the evaluation and treatment of clients.

The Occupational Therapist independently determines appropriate clinical assessments, treatment approaches, intervention strategies, therapeutic techniques, frequency of services (when applicable), and discharge recommendations within the scope of California occupational therapy practice and applicable authorization requirements.

Contract Collaboration

The Occupational Therapist collaborates with Chiu Chiu Train Therapy regarding:

Referral coordination
Service authorization
Documentation requirements
Scheduling coordination
Quality assurance activities
Communication with Service Coordinators
Contract administration

Nothing in this job description shall be interpreted as directing or controlling the Occupational Therapist's independent clinical judgment.

Physical Requirements

Reasonable physical abilities necessary to perform contracted services include:

Sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and transitioning to and from floor positions.
Lifting, carrying, positioning, or assisting children during therapeutic activities, as clinically appropriate.
Demonstrating therapeutic exercises and developmental activities.
Using hands for fine motor tasks, documentation, and therapeutic interventions.
Traveling between client homes and community locations.
Using electronic devices for documentation and communication.

Work Environment

Services are provided primarily in natural environments, including client homes, childcare settings, community locations, and other authorized service sites. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for maintaining a safe, professional, and family-centered therapeutic environment while providing services.

Independent Contractor Status

This position is an independent contractor relationship governed by the Independent Contractor Agreement between the Occupational Therapist and Chiu Chiu Train Therapy.

Nothing contained in this job description shall be construed as creating an employer-employee relationship. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for maintaining all licenses, certifications, insurance, permits, tax obligations, and professional requirements necessary to perform contracted services in accordance with applicable laws and the Independent Contractor Agreement.
