JOB DESCRIPTION

The Kitchen Coordinator will assist in dinner preparation for 30 residents, managing a kitchen facility and dining area. In addition, will shop and coordinate the training of kitchen assistants in food preparation and service skills. The Kitchen Coordinator works onsite at assigned location(s).

COMPENSATION

$25.50 - $33.21 per hour. Non-exempt; 20 hours/week; Eligible for overtime. Compensation based on education and experience.

Assistant Program Director

QUALIFICATIONS

Two years’ experience as a cook or caterer. A culinary degree may be substituted for one year of experience.

Ability to provide healthy, non-institutional meals for 30 individuals. Knowledge of nutrition and meal planning. Ability to adhere to a budget. Good written and oral English communication skills. Ability to work as member of a team, to accept supervision, to maintain appropriate boundaries while working in close inter-personal relationships. Ability to train residents in basic cooking and nutrition. Good organizational skills. Ability to be responsible, flexible, creative, empathetic, and able to relate effectively with clients, other staff, professionals and members of the community.

Drivers license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier.

Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assume primary responsibility for the preparation of nutritious, balanced, varied meals, with an emphasis on simple, whole, non-institutional foods.
Work closely with residents to plan and shop for meals. Look for ways to maximize resident involvement in the planning process.
Utilize community resources to buy nutritious foods as cheaply as possible (e.g., Food Bank, bulk buying from Health Food stores and Co-ops, outreach with local restaurants, solicitation of donations, etc.). Model this behavior for residents.
Be responsible for maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen. Monitor to ensure that food is stored and prepared according to health and safety codes.
Participate in and oversee the clean-up process.
Train residents in various aspects of food preparation and sanitation.
Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs. Capable of the following intermittent activities: stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 25 pounds or more and bending in the performance of infrequently performed office duties.
