Full Job Description

Position: Marketing Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Marketing & Communications

Pay Range: $45,000-$52,000

Status: Exempt

Description:
The Heart of Alabama Food Bank (HAFB) is seeking a story-seeker and storyteller who can bring our mission to life through compelling asset-based communications, highlighting the resilience, strength, and dignity of the communities we serve. This role will shape HAFB's content across media, digital platforms, and print materials, ensuring our messaging is compelling, current, and impact-driven.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the ideal candidate will be a curious, creative communicator who actively seeks out powerful stories and transforms them into engaging content across multiple channels. They will stay informed on the latest trends in marketing, communications, and hunger-related news, using these insights to craft messages that engage, educate, and mobilize our supporters. Whether through social storytelling, print and digital communications, or community engagement, this role will ensure HAFB's voice is powerful, relevant, and heard.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Actively seek out, develop, and share impact stories that highlight the voices of our neighbors facing hunger, volunteers, partners, and donors.

· Craft compelling, asset-based communications for multiple channels, including newsletters, website content, social media, general outreach, media, program needs, and fundraising materials.

· Manage and grow HAFB's social media presence, developing clear, audience-targeted, engaging, mission-driven content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube.

· Stay informed on hunger-related news, policies, and trends, integrating timely and relevant insights into communications strategies.

· Implement a strategic marketing and communications plan that strengthens HAFB’s brand and engages diverse audiences.

· Maintain a strategic marketing calendar, ensuring alignment of external messaging with donor appeals and events.

· Create and manage high-quality marketing materials, including brochures, information kits, event collateral, media assets, newsletters, templates, and organizational identity items.

· Monitor and analyze key marketing performance metrics to optimize strategies, reporting insights to the Director.

· Oversee HAFB’s WordPress website, ensuring content remains fresh, visually engaging, user-friendly, ADA compliant, aligns with storytelling best practices, and SEO optimization.

· Manage production processes with external print and promotion vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality materials that meet internal deadlines.

· As a member of HAFB's Development Team, you will be a public-facing representative of HAFB at community events as needed.

· Maintain HAFB's photo, video, and story archive, ensuring all content aligns with ethical
storytelling principles and includes necessary permissions.

· Continuously research and apply best practices in digital media, marketing, and nonprofit communications to enhance HAFB's outreach.

· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Strong written and verbal communications, project management, and organizational skills.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work across departments and with diverse stakeholder groups

· Demonstrated ability to recommend, persuade and influence communications with diverse audiences and to improve communications flow, execution and deliverables

· Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to coordinate multiple projects/tasks
simultaneously

· Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment

· At least 3-5 years' professional experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, or journalism is preferred

· Fluency in Spanish and the ability to translate written work to Spanish a plus

· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office

· Graphic design and video editing skills required (please submit any combination of three samples along with your resume)

· Strong copywriting abilities (please submit at least one sample of organically written content (not social media)

· Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish priorities, and meet deadlines is required

· An eye for detail

· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required for occasional night and weekend events

Pay: $45,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
