Full Job Description

Overview

The Quality Inspector is the independent quality check between production and finished goods. Working from a floating assignment across the production floor rather than a fixed line station, the incumbent inspects active jobs at defined checkpoints, performs functional and destructive testing, and conducts the final acceptance inspection that releases completed lots to finished goods. The incumbent will be a critical thinker with exceptional attention to detail, the discipline to follow inspection and sampling procedures exactly, and the willingness to hold product that does not meet our established quality standards.

Duties

The Quality Inspector performs quality control inspections, checks, and tests at defined points throughout production of hose and reel products — garden/water hose, air hose, whip hose and leads, and level wind reels — and is responsible for releasing finished lots to finished goods. Work is performed to documented inspection procedures in conformance with ISO 9001:2015 and customer quality requirements. The Quality Inspector records observations and recommends improvements to processes and inspection methods.

· Performs first-piece inspection at setup and on new items, verifying product against the approved (golden) sample, the specification, and the drawing before the run continues.

· Performs in-process inspections on active jobs at defined checkpoints across the run — checking crimp and coupling security, fitting retention, coil orientation, hose body condition, length, labels and print legibility, barcode scans, and component match to the work-order ticket.

· Performs functional and destructive testing — including leak, pressure and burst, coupling pull-off retention, and torque testing — and records results on the required test reports.

· Classifies findings as critical, major, or minor against the specification, the approved sample, and the applicable defect standard, and applies the correct accept or reject decision.

· Conducts final acceptance (AQL) inspection of finished lots using random-sample acceptance sampling methods, and accepts or rejects the lot based on the result.

· Provides the release authorization for accepted lots at the staging lane, and ensures no lot moves to finished goods without it.

· Holds, tags, and quarantines rejected product, raises nonconformance reports, and re-inspects only after disposition and re-screening.

· Inspects and approves incoming material lots, confirming specifications and supplier documentation, conducting visual and measurement tests, and rejecting and returning unacceptable material with a documented inspection report.

· Documents inspection and test results completely and legibly and inputs data into the quality records system. Inspection records are auditable and are reviewed by the Quality Manager.

· Supports internal product audits, and supports customer and third-party audits by keeping inspection and test records available for review.

· Keeps test and measuring equipment operating and in calibration: verifies calibration status before use, follows operating instructions and reference test methods, removes out-of-calibration equipment from service, and calls for repair.

· Communicates required adjustments to the Production Supervisor and line leads immediately on a failed check, holds or stops nonconforming work, and confirms rework before the product is re-inspected.

· Summarizes rework and waste, trends recurring defects, and supports corrective and preventive action (CAPA) investigations.

· Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following policies, standards, and procedures, and complying with all legal regulations.

· Other duties as assigned.

· Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

· Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, moving across the production floor between active jobs and staging lanes.

· Ability to lift, push, pull and move up to 50 lbs.

· Ability to work in both warm and cool environments.

· Ability to use one or two hands to grasp, lift, and manipulate product, including coiled hose and reel assemblies.

· Close visual acuity, with correction as needed, sufficient to detect surface, print, and label defects and to read measuring instruments and gauge indicators.

· Ability to distinguish colors for label, marking, and component verification.

· Ability to make repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists.

· Ability to bend, reach, and kneel to inspect product on pallets and in staging lanes.

· Ability to safely operate pressurized and mechanical test equipment and to wear required personal protective equipment during destructive testing.

· Ability to be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.

ASQ or similar certification is preferred but not required.
