Richmond Animal Hospital is Hiring an Operations Manager

We are a locally owned small animal practice committed to providing exceptional veterinary care while fostering a supportive, collaborative, and rewarding workplace. We believe that empowered team members deliver the highest quality patient and client experiences.

The Role

The Operations Manager is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hospital. This position ensures operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, staff development, and helps ensure that we continue to provide exceptional patient and client care.

The ideal candidate has 7–10 years of working as a veterinary technician in a small animal practice, possesses strong leadership skills, a passion for training and mentoring teams in a small animal practice, and strong attention to detail. Additionally, this position serves as the primary operational leader for the hospital's support staff and works closely with the Practice Owner/Veterinarian to support strategic goals, enhance operational performance and efficiency and keep a positive, team-oriented culture.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

Serve as the primary operational leader for support staff, fostering accountability, professional growth, and teamwork.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the hospital to ensure efficient workflow, exceptional client service, and high-quality patient care.
Collaborate with practice ownership to achieve operational and business goals.
Create, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for clinical, administrative, and client service functions.
Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and workflow efficiency.
Manage inventory, supplies, purchasing, and vendor relationships.
Coordinate facility maintenance and operational readiness.
Support client service initiatives and assist with resolving client concerns.
Ensure consistency in workflow, communication, and service standards across all departments.

Clinical Leadership, Training & Staff Development

Providing management and supervision to Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and the Client Concierge team.
Promote and foster a culture of collaboration and team-oriented approach to patient care and hospital operations.
Report directly to the Practice Owner/Veterinarian and collaborate on strategic planning, staffing, operational improvements, and hospital goals.
Help lead, support, implement and execute strategic goals with practice ownership.
Lead onboarding and training programs for veterinary technicians, assistants, client concierge, and other support staff.
Assess technical competencies and develop structured training plans.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and ongoing performance feedback.
Identify continuing education opportunities to support employee growth and development.
Ensure team members are properly trained and proficient in established SOPs and hospital protocols.
Partner with Owner/Veterinarian and HR consultant on recruiting, interviewing, hiring, performance management, and employee retention initiatives, and personnel-related best practices.

Compliance, Safety & Regulatory Oversight

Serve as the hospital's OSHA and workplace safety coordinator.
Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and veterinary safety regulations.
Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), employee safety records, and compliance documentation.
Conduct regular safety audits and staff safety training.
Ensure proper handling of controlled substances and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Maintain infection-control and biosecurity protocols.
Promote a culture of workplace safety and accountability throughout the hospital.

Qualifications & Requirements

7–10 years of experience as a veterinary technician in a small animal veterinary hospital.
Licensed Veterinary Technician, preferred.
Strong technical skills including blood collection, anesthesia monitoring, laboratory procedures, surgical support, and patient care.
Experience training and mentoring veterinary support staff.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong understanding of veterinary hospital operations and workflow.
Proficiency with veterinary practice management software and electronic medical records.
“Can do” attitude

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for long periods at the front desk.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., bags of prescription diet food).
High tolerance for a noisy environment (barking dogs, ringing phones).

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
