Full Job Description

The Alumni Support Advisor is a direct service role responsible for managing a caseload of recent 12 Plus high school graduates as they pursue their chosen post-secondary pathways. Working directly under the Director of Alumni Support, the Advisor’s primary goal is to increase pathway matriculation, persistence, and retention into post-secondary programs and the workforce.

Description

This role requires a foundational commitment to empathy-led practice. Alumni Support Advisors serve as a critical safety net for recent graduates navigating the challenges of life beyond high school—from enrollment and financial aid to mental health, basic needs, and workforce readiness. Advisors must demonstrate the ability to sustain high-volume, high-quality advising independently across both remote and in-person settings.

This is a hybrid position. In-person advising is conducted at the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP), 12 Plus HQ, and the Camden High School Campus PLUS Center. Remote advising is the primary modality outside of required on-site days, with responses to students expected within one to two business days. Special events or required meetings may necessitate additional in-person scheduling.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Alumni Advising — Direct Service (70%)

Maintain an active advising caseload of 12 Plus alumni, with caseload volume ranging from 100 to 200 students at peak periods. Strong performance is defined by:

Establishing and maintaining consistent, reliable, and effective support for 80% or more of the assigned caseload.
Sustaining support for students who opt into continued advising for a minimum of six to ten months.

Advising responsibilities span three program seasons and include:

Summer Outreach: Advise and support the maximum possible caseload toward enrollment, matriculation, and successfully beginning a chosen pathway.
Establish meaningful, lasting engagement between alumni and the program to ensure continued advising availability beyond enrollment periods.

Fall Semester: Deepen connections with alumni from the assigned caseload; reinforce critical skills including time management, decision-making, and study habits.

Spring Semester: Identify alumni who will need a second year of support and close out advising with those whose goals have been met; support the facilitation of workshops and engagement touchpoints with high school site teams to welcome incoming graduates to the program.

Across all seasons, advising support includes but is not limited to:

Collegiate & Trade School Enrollment and Persistence: Placement exam support, orientation support, connecting alumni with campus programs and resources, addressing financial aid verifications, academic readiness coaching, and school housing applications (as applicable).
Workforce Preparation: Resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, mock interviews, and job application support.
Socio-Emotional & Well-Being Support: Serving as a first line of support for mental health and well-being concerns; identifying community-based resources for extended support; and addressing basic needs concerns including financial stability, transportation, clothing, supplies, and food as they arise.

Advisors are also expected to contribute meaningfully to targeted semester goals for the Alumni Program as a whole, and to represent 12 Plus’s values in all interactions with graduates, families, and community partners.

2. Data Management (20%)

Report accurately, efficiently, and independently on key alumni metrics. Timely and thorough data entry serves as an active history of each student’s advising progress and informs broader program strategy. Metrics include:

Enrollment progress and pathway status confirmations.
Responsiveness to outreach.
Alumni check-ins logged (weekly).
Employment history (as applicable).
FAFSA renewal status (as applicable).
Complex advising case documentation (as applicable).

3. Student Storytelling & Organizational Communications (10%)

Contribute as needed to social media content, internal messaging, and organizational communications that highlight alumni progress and program impact.
Collect and share quotes, photos, and success stories from students and teammates to support 12 Plus’s development and communications efforts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should demonstrate the following:

Minimum of one to two years of experience in college advising, career advising, or youth development, .
Demonstrated ability to deliver advising effectively in remote and hybrid formats.
Capacity to sustain a high volume of independent advising while maintaining quality and consistency.
Ability to collaborate effectively within an existing program and team structure.
Genuine curiosity about how 12 Plus supports students and communities beyond our school-based program.

Ideal candidates will also bring one or more of the following:

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
Background in social work or care management.
Experience supporting students pursuing non-college post-secondary pathways (workforce, trades, etc.).
A demonstrated willingness to learn, grow, and step outside one’s comfort zone.
