Position Overview
An established wholesale distribution company is expanding its sales team and hiring two full-time Sales Representatives focused on new business development and account growth.
These are in-person sales positions for individuals who are comfortable prospecting, starting conversations, following up consistently, and turning new opportunities into long-term customer relationships.
The primary focus of this role is new business. Sales Representatives will actively identify and pursue prospective customers through outbound calling, targeted account outreach, networking, referrals, customer visits, industry relationships, and other business-development activities.
While previous industry experience is helpful, it is not required. New team members will receive product and industry training designed to help them confidently understand customer needs, recommend appropriate solutions, and develop credibility within the market.
We are looking for individuals who are motivated by growth, comfortable being accountable to measurable sales goals, and willing to actively pursue opportunities rather than wait for business to come to them.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospect for and develop new business through outbound calls, targeted outreach, referrals, networking, customer visits, and industry relationships
- Identify prospective accounts and decision-makers within assigned markets and territories
- Initiate conversations with prospective customers and develop relationships that lead to sales opportunities
- Conduct regular outreach and follow-up with prospects throughout the sales cycle
- Schedule and conduct customer meetings, calls, presentations, and in-person visits as appropriate
- Ask questions to understand each prospect’s business, purchasing needs, challenges, and current suppliers
- Learn the company’s products and services and clearly communicate their value to prospective customers
- Recommend appropriate products and solutions based on customer needs
- Prepare or coordinate quotes, pricing, product recommendations, and sales proposals
- Follow up consistently on quotes, proposals, samples, meetings, and open sales opportunities
- Convert qualified prospects into new purchasing customers
- Identify opportunities to expand newly established accounts through additional products, services, and purchasing relationships
- Maintain an active and organized sales pipeline
- Accurately document prospecting activity, customer communication, opportunities, follow-up dates, and account information in the CRM
- Develop and maintain an organized prospecting and customer-visit schedule
- Meet established expectations for outbound activity, new opportunities, conversions, new accounts, revenue, and gross profit
- Attend customer meetings, networking functions, trade shows, training sessions, and industry events as assigned
- Develop relationships with contractors, service companies, municipalities, facilities, distributors, property professionals, and other applicable business customers
- Monitor market activity and communicate relevant customer needs, competitor information, and business opportunities to management
- Coordinate with internal customer service, purchasing, warehouse, shipping, and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from prospect to active customer
- Represent the organization professionally in all customer, community, and industry interactions
What Success Looks Like

- Customer meetings and visits
- Quote and proposal activity
- Follow-up consistency
- New accounts opened
- Prospect-to-customer conversion
- New-business revenue
- Gross profit generated
- Pipeline development and accuracy
- CRM activity and documentation
Specific performance expectations and sales goals will be communicated by management.
Qualifications
- Previous sales, business development, account management, or B2B customer experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable initiating conversations with people who have not previously done business with the company
- Confident making outbound calls and conducting proactive prospecting
- Strong listening, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Persistent and comfortable following up multiple times to develop an opportunity
- Self-motivated, dependable, competitive, and results-oriented
- Comfortable working toward measurable activity and sales goals
- Organized and capable of managing multiple prospects and opportunities simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to learn and clearly explain technical product information
- Comfortable asking for the sale and moving opportunities toward a decision
- Comfortable using CRM platforms, email, Microsoft Office, or Google Workspace
- Able to work professionally and collaboratively with customers and internal team members
- Experience in B2B sales, wholesale distribution, construction, plumbing, industrial products, waterworks, municipal sales, or a related field is a plus, but not required
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Reliable transportation
- Ability and willingness to travel locally for customer meetings, prospecting, networking, and industry events as required
- Ability to independently manage prospecting activities and follow-up responsibilities
- Availability to attend occasional customer meetings, trade shows, or industry events outside regular business hours
