Full Job Description

The Oxford Maintenance Technician at the Emma Kaufmann Camp reports to the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor and will support the efforts of the Property Management team, with primary duties and responsibilities to maintain the property which includes timely completion of work orders and preventative maintenance tasks.

This is a unique full-time, year-round position. During the busy spring and summer seasons, focus will be on reactive maintenance, pool operations, and keeping specialty waterfront and utility facilities running smoothly. In the off-season, focus shifts to winterization, facility upgrades, and hands-on renovation/remodeling projects.

Relationships

Reports daily to the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor who has the primary authority to determine the exact “day-to-day” duties of the technician.
Work with other maintenance staff and outside vendors.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and perform minor and routine maintenance/repair in a timely and professional manner. Assure all service requests are completed as needed at the site.
Provide inspection services for the general operation of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Promote good public relations with JCC, and company staff through
great “people” attitude. Always display a friendly and courteous attitude towards visitors.
Complete special projects as may be assigned and prioritized by management.
Complete preventative maintenance tasks.
Maintain accurate records.
Maintain shop appearance to standards to facilitate quick assessment of supply inventory.
Coordinate maintenance objectives with management daily.
Perform, and report on, all work according to the safety standards of the company, OSHA and health codes.

Spring & Summer Operations

General Facility Maintenance: Perform day-to-day repairs involving basic plumbing, low-voltage electrical, carpentry, basic structural repairs, lawn care services, and hardware maintenance across property buildings and recreation areas.
Pool Operations: Perform filter maintenance, and mechanical system checks for the swimming pool.
Waterfront Facilities: Inspect, repair, and maintain docks, gangways, stairs. General motorboat maintenance including basic small-engine maintenance (oil changes) and refueling.
Grounds & Safety: Maintain grounds safety and clear pathways, respond promptly to urgent building repairs, and ensure all systems meet safety standards for campers and staff.

Fall & Winter Operations

Building & Remodeling: Assist in winter remodeling projects across the property, including interior/exterior carpentry, drywall repairs, painting, flooring installation, and other similar upgrades.
Winterization & De-Winterization: Properly drain and winterize all seasonal plumbing, pool systems, waterfront equipment, and unheated structures in Fall. Bring systems back online in spring.
Off-Season Repairs: Conduct deep preventative maintenance, tool and shop organization, and mechanical overhauls before the next summer season.

Tools

Knowledgeable and skilled in the safe use and maintenance of the following:
Hand tools: Various wrenches, screwdrivers, grips, sledgehammer, hammer, snips, post hole diggers, saws, etc.
Power Tools: Wrenches, grinder, sander, drill, saws, etc.
User-Moved Aids: Wheelbarrows, dollies, hand trucks, buckets, hoists, jacks, stepladders, full ladders, double ladders.
Mechanical Equipment: Motors, pumps, compressors, blowers,
Electric and hand powered augers, pressure washers, etc.
Measuring Devices: Voltmeters, ohmmeters, testing meters, etc.

Key Qualifications

Well-Rounded Basic Maintenance Experience: Solid foundational experience in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, lawn care, equipment operation, and general troubleshooting. Ability to work with basic hand tools and power tools and measuring devices.
Hands-on Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of mechanical equipment (motors, pumps, compressors, and blowers). Ability to diagnose and fix small engines, pumps, motors, or basic machinery is preferred but not mandatory.
Adaptability & Work Ethic: Willingness to shift priorities between seasonal facility requirements throughout the year.
Swimming Pool Experience: Direct experience or familiarity with swimming pool mechanical operations and filtration systems is preferred but not mandatory.

Bonus Experience - preferred but not necessary

Experience with small boat maintenance
Familiarity or prior experience with commercial swimming pool mechanical and filtration operations, onsite wastewater treatment systems, septic systems, or pump stations.
Additional mechanical repair or small engine troubleshooting experience.

What we require:

A high school diploma is required.
General maintenance experience, knowledge of light carpentry, plumbing, electrical and safety procedures.
Experience maintaining swimming pools, boats, etc. a plus.
Park & Recreational experience is also a plus.
Clearance Act 33/34 and criminal background check.
Safety conscious, steady and dependable.
Ability to work with pressure of deadlines
