Job Summary:
The Junior Project Engineer is responsible for assisting in the successful delivery of client technology projects by supporting the planning, deployment, implementation, and documentation of IT infrastructure solutions. Working under the guidance of senior Project Engineers and the Director of Proactive Services, this role participates in a wide variety of technical projects including server and network deployments, Microsoft 365 and Azure implementations, workstation rollouts, cloud migrations, cybersecurity initiatives, and infrastructure refreshes.
The Junior Project Engineer develops hands-on technical expertise while gaining experience in project execution, client communication, documentation, and best practices. This individual is expected to deliver high-quality work, maintain accurate project documentation, and provide exceptional customer service while progressively developing the skills necessary to independently lead technology projects. In addition to project implementation, the role supports proactive maintenance initiatives and assists with the onboarding of new managed service clients to ensure stable, secure, and well-documented IT environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assist with the planning, staging, deployment, and completion of client technology projects under the direction of senior engineers and the Director of Proactive Services.
· Deploy, configure, and validate servers, workstations, network infrastructure, wireless solutions, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, and related cloud technologies following established standards.
· Stage, pre-configure, test, and inventory hardware and software prior to client installations to ensure successful project execution.
· Perform workstation deployments, Microsoft 365 migrations, device enrollments, user profile migrations, software installations, and endpoint configurations.
· Assist with server installations, virtualization platforms (Hyper-V and VMware), Active Directory, Windows Server roles, storage systems, and network infrastructure upgrades.
· Participate in project cutovers, maintenance windows, and infrastructure upgrades while minimizing client downtime and ensuring successful implementation.
· Surface project opportunities identified during onboarding and maintenance work, recommending remediation, upgrade, and standardization projects that bring client environments in line with ICS best practices.
· Troubleshoot and resolve implementation issues involving networking, Microsoft technologies, cloud services, security solutions, backups, and endpoint devices, escalating complex issues when appropriate.
· Maintain accurate project documentation, including network diagrams, configuration details, implementation records, asset inventories, and client documentation.
· Record project time, technical notes, progress updates, and completed tasks daily within the company's Professional Services Automation (PSA) platform.
· Collaborate with the Service Desk, Project Engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet company quality standards.
· Participate in client meetings and onsite implementations while maintaining a professional, customer-focused approach and representing the company positively.
· Continuously develop technical knowledge through training, certifications, mentoring, and hands-on experience while adhering to company standards, cybersecurity best practices, and change management procedures.
· Perform preventative maintenance activities for managed client environments, including routine system health checks, firmware updates, patch validation, infrastructure assessments, and documentation reviews.
· Assist with the onboarding of new managed service clients, including environment discovery, documentation, baseline configuration, equipment deployment, standards implementation, and transition into ongoing managed support.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent certifications and demonstrated hands-on experience will be considered equally.
· 1-2 years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or project-based technical delivery. Experience in a managed service provider environment is strongly preferred.
· Deep working knowledge of Windows Server and Windows desktop operating systems and core networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VLANs, and VPN.
· Proven hands-on expertise administering and designing Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure environments at production scale, including Entra ID and Intune.
· Strong experience with virtualization on Hyper-V or VMware, backup and disaster recovery solution design, and structured cabling practices.
· Strong scripting ability with PowerShell to automate deployment, configuration, and reporting.
· Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), or Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert (MS-102), or demonstrable equivalent experience. CompTIA Network+ and Security+ are expected baseline certifications.
· Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, sufficient to explain technical work and design decisions to non-technical audiences.
· A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to client sites.
Additional Requirements:
This role requires regular travel to client sites for project delivery, assessments, consultations, relationship-building, or service-related tasks. Travel expectations may vary depending upon client needs and project demands. The nature of MSP operations may require this role to occasionally work outside of our normal business hours of Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm EST, especially during critical project phases, system upgrades, cutovers, and client emergencies. This position requires the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 50 pounds, and to perform work that includes bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces such as equipment closets. Pay: $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
