The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is the collecting art museum of NC State University and one of six primary units in Arts NC State within the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. With more than 54,000 objects—from craft and design to global material culture—the museum presents 4-8 exhibitions annually along with performances, talks, workshops, and collaborative community-driven programs. All exhibitions and programs are free and open to the public, reflecting the Gregg’s commitment to creativity, innovation, and accessible arts engagement.
The Senior Education Coordinator is a temporary position that will serves the museum’s Learning, Engagement, and Partnerships initiatives and work collaboratively with the Museum Director to enhance the museum’s role as a dynamic, hands-on learning environment for NC State students, faculty, and community partners. The role advances interdisciplinary program development, supports faculty outreach and co-curricular engagement, and contributes to the development of a Museum Studies Certificate in partnership with Arts NC State and academic collaborators.
This position supports the creation of the overall public programming season, large-scale public programs, community-driven artist residencies, curriculum-integrated initiatives, and in-gallery learning experiences. It also plays a key role in coordinating the museum’s Learning, Engagement, and Partnerships activities, which encompass:
- 40–60 group visits per semester in Fall and Spring
- 15–20 public programs each semester, and
- A Summer schedule of approximately 20 group visits and 6 programs.
This temporary role will work closely with a coordinator who manages the scheduling and organization of these programs and visits.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Implementation
- Plan and implement the overall seasonal planning of large-scale public programs in collaboration with the Museum Director and for the Learning, Engagement, and Partnerships initiatives.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary artists, scholars, and presenters for museum programming.
- Support community-engaged artist residencies and cross-campus initiatives.
Academic & Community Partnerships
- Build partnerships with NC State faculty, departments, and colleges to integrate exhibitions and collections into curricula.
- Co-create interdisciplinary learning initiatives and support the development of a Museum Studies Certificate.
- Strengthen relationships with K–12 educators, community groups, and campus units to increase museum engagement.
Learning Resources, Tours & Interpretation
- Oversee development of in-gallery learning materials, hands-on activities, and ADA-accessible guides.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality virtual and in-person tours for varied audiences.
- Conduct research on the permanent collection to inform interpretation, lesson plans, and digital content; assess group visit experiences and recommend improvements.
Digital Media, Marketing & Educational Content
- Create and oversee the development of digital assets including photography, video, social media content, and virtual tours.
- Produce and edit videos for the museum’s YouTube channel and collaborate with contractors or campus partners.
- Support marketing and audience outreach efforts with the Engagement Initiatives and Arts NC State.
Administration, Coordination & Team Support
- Manage logistics, scheduling, contracts, payments, materials, documentation, evaluation, and project records for museum programs.
- Provide guidance and support to staff, interns, ambassadors, and volunteers involved in program delivery and research.
This position is primarily on-site, with occasional remote flexibility depending on department needs.
Per NC State temporary employment policies, temporary employees are required to take one-month unpaid leave annually once they reach 11 months of employment.
