Full Job Description

Construction Accountant

Platinum Industries Inc. is a growing civil construction company serving the Central Coast of California. We specialize in civil construction, underground utilities, concrete, grading, and project management.

We are looking for an experienced Construction Accountant to join our team and help manage the financial side of our growing construction operations.

This position is ideal for someone who understands that construction accounting is more than entering bills and balancing a bank account. You should be comfortable with job costing, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, subcontractors, certified payroll, and construction project financials.

Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day accounting activities for construction projects
Maintain accurate job cost accounting by project, phase, and cost code
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
Enter and code vendor invoices, receipts, equipment costs, and expenses
Review subcontractor invoices and payment applications
Track subcontractor compliance, including W-9s, insurance certificates, and other required documentation
Assist with monthly billing and progress billing
Track project costs against budgets and estimates
Reconcile company bank and credit card accounts
Assist with payroll processing and employee time tracking
Assist with certified payroll and prevailing-wage project requirements
Track labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and other direct project costs
Monitor accounts receivable and assist with collections
Maintain accurate records in QuickBooks
Prepare financial reports for company ownership and management
Assist management with job profitability and cost-to-complete reporting
Help identify accounting discrepancies, cost overruns, and billing issues
Work closely with project managers, estimators, field personnel, vendors, and ownership
Assist with year-end preparation and coordination with the company's CPA
Maintain organized and accurate financial documentation

QualificationsRequired

3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
Strong understanding of construction job costing
Experience with QuickBooks
Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable
Strong Excel skills
Understanding of construction contracts, subcontractors, and vendor billing
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Ability to maintain confidentiality with company financial information

Preferred

Construction accounting experience
Experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll
Experience with public works projects
Experience with construction payroll
Experience with progress billing and pay applications
Experience working with general contractors, subcontractors, or civil contractors
Knowledge of California construction accounting requirements

Compensation

$28 - $35 per hour, depending on experience

Part-time position.
