Full Job Description

Mount Joy Borough Authority in Lancaster County, PA, is looking for a dedicated Water & Sewer Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will perform essential work repairing the water distribution and sewer collection systems that serve the borough and surrounding municipalities.

As a Maintenance Technician, you'll be hands-on, helping to ensure that the Authority’s water and sewer systems run smoothly. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual who enjoys working outdoors to build a career and learn about the water and sewer industry. We provide all training and uniforms while also paying for necessary certifications for the role.

The work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., and on-call rotation for after-hours service calls. We offer a competitive hourly wage ($22 to $25/hr, depending on experience, plus overtime pay opportunities) and an excellent benefits package, which includes medical insurance, paid vacation and more.

Key Responsibilities

Repair and Installation: Repair and maintain water distribution and sewer collection infrastructure lines. Install new water and sewer mains, including water service taps, service lines, and sewer laterals
System Operations: Inspect water and sewer mains, turning valves, review and update maps, flushing fire hydrants, conduct regular checks of treatment plants, booster, and pump stations, which includes running generators and logging pump hours
General Maintenance and Support: Assist with various tasks such as reading, repairing, or replacing water meters; perform routine maintenance on vehicles; respond to PA One Calls to mark utility lines; and help with mowing and snow clearing around facilities

Qualifications

We're looking for a candidate with a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.

High School diploma or equivalent is required
Laborer experience is a plus, as is the ability to obtain certification for wastewater or water treatment plant operations
Possess a valid PA motor vehicle license and a PA Commercial Driver's License (CDL), minimum Class B with Air Brake & Tanker Endorsement, or be willing to obtain your CDL license within one (1) year of employment
Be skilled in operating manual, pneumatic, and various types of heavy equipment, such as jackhammers, tampers, and masonry tools
Possess a thorough knowledge of safety practices is required. Knowledge of sanitary and sewer line maintenance and treatment plant standards is required, although this can be developed after employment

The ideal candidate has the ability to:

Work well with coworkers as part of a team and also work independently
Adhere to safety standards and recognize hazards in the workplace
Perform manual tasks and operate equipment for extended periods, sometimes in adverse weather
Meet the physical demands of the job, including frequently lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for long periods, bending, and reaching
Be polite and courteous when interacting with the general public
Strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable using modern technology to document jobs and related work activity

Work Environment

This position reports to the Construction Supervisor. The work is frequently performed around hazardous machinery and can involve threats to personal safety if standards are not followed. You will occasionally work in inclement weather and must be available for a rotating on-call schedule to respond to emergencies 24/7
