The Opportunity
Story & Lee Furniture is a family-based company built on relationships, trust, and a commitment to the people we serve. We believe strong teams start with strong leadership, and we are looking for someone who will embrace that spirit.
Story & Lee Furniture is looking for a high-integrity, dependable leader to oversee our warehouse team and day-to-day operations.
This position is about more than managing inventory, trucks, furniture, or schedules. We are looking for someone who can lead people well. The right person will earn the respect of a team, set clear expectations, hold people accountable, solve problems calmly, and create an environment where employees know what is expected of them and take pride in doing their job well.
We want someone who will take ownership of the warehouse and treat the responsibilities entrusted to them as if they were their own.
Who We're Looking For
Character matters as much to us as experience. We are looking for someone who is:
- Honest and trustworthy
- Consistent and dependable
- Comfortable leading and managing a team of men
- Firm without being disrespectful
- Able to hold employees accountable
- Calm when problems arise
- Organized and proactive
- Willing to make decisions
- Able to communicate clearly with employees and leadership
- Comfortable having difficult conversations when necessary
- Respected because of how they lead, not simply because of their title
- Willing to work alongside the team when the situation calls for it
- Comfortable using a computer for scheduling, communication, inventory, and reporting tasks
- Eligible and able to operate a company vehicle when business needs require
We are not looking for someone who simply points out problems. We want someone who takes responsibility for solving them.

- Whether expectations are being met.
- Where recurring problems exist.
- Which employees need additional coaching.
- Which employees demonstrate leadership potential.
- What changes could make the warehouse safer or more efficient.
When something goes wrong, this person takes responsibility for finding the cause and helping correct it.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Warehouse & Operations Manager will create a warehouse where:
- Employees know exactly what is expected of them.
- Problems are addressed instead of ignored.
- Good employees are recognized and developed.
- Poor performance is dealt with fairly and consistently.
- The warehouse remains organized and clean.
- Delivery crews are prepared.
- Communication between the warehouse, office, and leadership improves.
- Employees respect their manager.
- Leadership does not have to constantly step into daily warehouse problems.
- Customers ultimately receive a better experience because the operation behind the scenes runs well.
Experience
Previous leadership experience is strongly preferred. Experience in warehousing, furniture, logistics, delivery, construction, manufacturing, transportation, or another hands-on operational environment is valuable.
However, we are more interested in finding the right leader with the right character than simply hiring the person with the longest résumé.
The right candidate must demonstrate a history of:
- Leading people.
- Taking responsibility.
- Resolving conflict.
- Holding others accountable.
- Making sound decisions.
- Staying organized.
- Following through on commitments.
- Using computer systems for communication, scheduling, and reporting.
