Beekeepers and aspiring beekeepers are invited to apply to work with Ebert Honey Mount Vernon (Iowa) on a full-time or part-time basis for the end of the 2026 beekeeping season. Honey harvest work and parasite treatments are the two starting priorities for this time of year. This advertisement is for seasonal work that runs from late summer through October, though work is sometimes available into early December when our bees ship to California for almond pollination. For part-time applicants, we request a minimum of 20 hrs availability per week. Seasonal workers sometimes have the opportunity to join Ebert Honey on a full-time and year-round basis in future years.
Applicants for this position should have the following qualifications:
*Interest in honeybees and their health.
*Pride in contributing to small business success and U.S. food production.
*Willingness to occasionally work before 8 a.m. and past 5 p.m. when seasonal demands are high. The typical workday is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
*Ability to learn to operate extracting equipment during honey harvest season.
*Ability to learn to operate flatbed pickups associated with beekeeping work. A valid drivers license is required.
*Ability to learn to operate skid steers/forklifts associated with beekeeping work.
*Work with a positive attitude on a daily basis.
*Ability to safely lift at least 40 lbs with frequency and 75 lbs periodically.
*Applicants must not have a bee sting allergy. Getting stung is inevitable in this job.
*Commit to consistently testing for and managing the parasites that are the bees’ #1 reason for dying easily (varroa mites).
*Adequate vision to detect honeybee eggs and potential diseases in the cells of the comb. This is important for assessing the health of a bee hive.
*Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. We try not to work in the rain or cold, but it is necessary sometimes. Working in protective suits during the summer heat is required in this position.
In Iowa the summer temperatures often peak a little over 100F.
*Ability to learn to operate basic woodworking equipment and power tools associated with building and repairing beekeeping equipment.
*Positively represent Ebert Honey as an employee of our company.
