Retail – Meat Cutter Apprentice
Job Summary:The Retail Meat Cutter Apprentice supports the Meat Department by learning and assisting with meat cutting, preparation, merchandising, and food safety practices. This position provides hands-on training under the direction of experienced butchers while ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist meat cutters with cutting, trimming, grinding, and preparing meat products
· Learn proper knife handling, equipment operation, and meat-cutting techniques
· Package, label, weigh, and price meat products accurately
· Stock and rotate meat case inventory following FIFO and freshness standards
· Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, tools, and equipment
· Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations
· Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating meat deliveries
· Provide courteous customer service and respond to basic customer questions
· Comply with workplace safety and loss prevention policies
· Participate in training programs and demonstrate continuous skill development
Qualifications
· 18 years of age or older
· High school diploma or GED
· Previous experience in a grocery, food service, or meat-handling environment is a plus, but not required
· Willingness to learn meat-cutting techniques and food safety standards
· Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

· Operation of grinders, slicers, scales, and other meat equipment

Working Hours:
Early morning, day, evenings, weekends, and some holidays may be required.

- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and work for extended periods
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of meat products and supplies, typically up to 50 pounds

- Work in refrigerated and cold environments
- Exposure to sharp tools, equipment, and wet or slippery surfaces
- Ability to follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
Pay: From $15.50 per hour
