Village Community Services supports people of diverse abilities in achieving personal potential at home, work, and in community life. Our Residential Support Staff provide essential support and training on self-help and awareness skills to participants living within Village Community Services’ Residential Programs.

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work directly with adults with disabilities both in their homes and in the community. A DSP follows a person-centered care plan guided by the client, which outlines daily support needs as well as personal goals the client wishes to accomplish. Based on each client’s needs and preferences, the DSP ensures a safe and supportive living environment, assists with daily tasks, and teaches life skills such as meal preparation, personal care, financial management, community participation, and social skill development. DSPs play a vital role in fostering independence, dignity, and inclusion while encouraging clients to make choices, advocate for themselves, and reach their fullest potential.

Essential Functions:

Ensure all health and hygiene needs are met.
Encourage personal choice, self-advocacy, independence, and decision-making.
Participate in client annual meetings.
Support behavior plans, medical protocols, and safety procedures as required.
Provide support and training as needed in daily living skills, meal preparation, leisure activities, shopping, medication, finances/personal budget, community/family interaction, and medical appointments.
Provide individualized instruction and support as outlined in each person’s Individual Support Plan (IISP), Person-Centered Support Plan (PCSP), and Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP).
Observe, document, report and support any changes in mental, physical and/or emotional behavior.
Accurately input, track, and manage data using various computer software applications and email platforms.
Maintain good communication with participants.
Ability to read body language, assess moods and possible trouble areas, and diffuse potentially unsafe situations.
Safeguard confidentiality of participant records and information.
Participate in PCP’s, staff meetings and trainings.
Ensure the participant’s homes are clean and well maintained.
Keep all licenses and certificates current.
Able to use good verbal, reading and writing skills.
Able to communicate effectively with coworkers, the community, clients, and families.
Drive various agency vehicles to transport participants when needed.

Physical Demands:

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and stair climbing.
Lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds (groceries, furniture, supplies).
General household cleaning and upkeep (sweeping, dusting, mopping, cooking, laundry, yard work).
Driving agency vehicles for client transportation and agency needs.
Frequent hand use for writing, computer operation, and office equipment.
Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Skills:

Must have good communication skills.
Able to work with clients, staff, and families in a respectful and kind manner.
Able to use good judgment, and be a positive role model who can effectively work with a variety of staff and client personalities.
Must be flexible to follow established site or client routines.
Able to quickly learn new job tasks.

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred, but not required.
High school diploma (or equivalent)
Washington State driver’s license with a good driving record
Must pass a criminal background check

Schedule:

We are hiring both Full-Time and Part-Time positions at our residential sites in Stanwood, Smokey Point, and Arlington.
Please kindly note that shift days, location, and times are subject to vary based on availability and site location.

Benefits:

Insurance after 60 day’s employment: Employees scheduled at least 30 hours per week are covered by employer-paid life insurance and can also (with their families) enroll in medical/EAP/Wellness. Employees with medical are covered by long-term disability insurance. All employees (and their families) may enroll in dental, vision, life/AD&D insurance, and accident plans.

Paid Time Off: PTO is based on length of service/hours worked, starting at 3.64 weeks per year for full-time. PTO can be used after 90 days for sick leave/vacation/ holidays.

403(b) Retirement Plan: For 2025, the plan matches contributions up to 2% of earnings. Match begins after 60 days’ employment.

Referral Bonus: A bonus of up to $100 is available if the referred employee stays for one year.

Pet insurance and access to affordable education through Bellevue University (Nebraska) is available.

Union Representation: This position is a bargaining unit position and is represented by the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Terms and conditions of employment, including but not limited to wages, hours, scheduling, discipline, and termination, are governed by the collective bargaining agreement in effect at the time of employment.
