Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for energetic & friendly team members to deliver exceptional customer service while supporting daily operations of a Japanese-style marketplace and deli at Yutori! This role focuses on preparing authentic Japanese food/retail items maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation, and helping customers explore Japanese cuisine and products.

Key Responsibilities

Provide friendly, knowledgeable service to customers, including guidance on Japanese foods, ingredients, and prepared items
Prepare deli foods such as bento boxes, onigiri, sushi rolls (as applicable), fried items, and hot or cold prepared dishes
Slice, portion, label, and package meats, seafood, and deli items following store standards
Operate deli and kitchen equipment safely, including slicers, rice cookers, fryers, and registers
Stock and rotate Japanese products, snacks, beverages, refrigerated items and specialty ware
Maintain cleanliness of food prep areas, deli counters, and sales floor in accordance with food safety regulations
Follow food safety, sanitation, and hygiene guidelines at all times
Accurately process transactions using POS systems and handle cash
Assist with inventory counts, receiving deliveries, and restocking
Support opening and closing duties as assigned

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience in food service, deli, or retail preferred but not required
Interest in Japanese food and culture strongly preferred
Food handler certification (or willingness to obtain)
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills

Familiarity with Japanese cuisine (e.g., ramen, sushi, bento, donburi)
Ability to pronounce and explain Japanese product names (training provided)
Bilingual English/Japanese is a plus but not required

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
Comfortable working with knives, hot equipment, and refrigerated environments
