Full Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Tax Accountant – Sales, Use & Property Tax to support the organization’s sales, use, and property tax functions. This position is responsible for the preparation and review of tax returns, tax research and analysis, account reconciliations, audit support, and the review of transactions to determine appropriate tax treatment. The role works with internal departments and external parties as needed to resolve tax-related matters and support compliance with applicable state and local tax requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare sales, use, and property tax returns, including reviewing accounting system information for accuracy and determining appropriate filing positions based on applicable state tax laws.
Review sales, use, and property tax returns prepared by other tax staff for accuracy and reasonableness, and follow up on unusual findings or discrepancies as necessary.
Review lease supplements and research applicable state tax laws to determine the appropriate sales tax treatment of leased equipment.
Review and maintain exemption certificates and related documentation to support appropriate tax treatment and minimize potential audit exposure.
Research sales and use tax requirements related to proposed equipment sales and provide appropriate tax rates or exemption certificate requirements.
Work with collections staff and customers to resolve sales, use, and property tax matters, including reviewing disputed tax charges and recommending appropriate adjustments or credits.
Coordinate tax chargebacks to lessees and support the collection of applicable taxes.
Reconcile tax liabilities, chargebacks, and tax payments to the general ledger and recommend appropriate reconciling entries or charge-offs.
Monitor changes in applicable tax laws and relevant court decisions and evaluate their potential impact on filing positions and requirements.
Serve as the primary liaison for sales, use, and property tax audits, including reviewing company documentation, responding to audit inquiries, and addressing potential tax, interest, and penalty assessments.
Maintain tax processing software and related records.
Coordinate required signatures and payments to support the timely completion and filing of tax returns.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline required.
Prior tax preparation experience with preparing sales, use, and/or property tax returns required.
Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Working knowledge of applicable state and local tax requirements.
Experience researching tax regulations and applying findings to business transactions.
Ability to review financial and transactional data, identify discrepancies, and resolve tax-related issues.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external parties.
