Full-Cycle Bookkeeper / Project Accountant
Lex Construction is looking for a hands-on Full-Cycle Bookkeeper / Project Accountant who wants more than simply entering transactions and checking boxes.
This is an opportunity for someone who understands construction accounting, enjoys solving problems, and wants to take ownership of the accounting function while helping build better processes along the way.
We are a busy construction company with active projects, subcontractors, job costs, progress billing, and work-in-progress accounting. We need someone who can step into the middle of it, understand what is happening, clean up what needs attention, and establish processes that make the accounting function more organized and reliable.
What You'll Own
- Full-cycle bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Customer invoicing and progress billing
- Construction job costing
- Work-in-progress (WIP) tracking
- Percentage-of-completion accounting
- Job cost and budget-to-actual review
- Subcontractor and vendor accounting
- Customer payments and deposits
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- General ledger maintenance
- Month-end close support
- Review of transactions for proper job, customer, vendor, and account coding
- Identifying accounting discrepancies and correcting them
- Maintaining accurate project financial information
- Supporting management with job profitability and financial reporting
The Opportunity
This position is ideal for someone who doesn't need every process handed to them.
There is historical cleanup to be done, processes to improve, and structure to build. You will have the opportunity to take what currently exists, determine what works, identify what doesn't, and help create a more organized accounting operation.
If you are the type of person who sees a messy reconciliation and wants to figure out why it's wrong...
If you notice that job costs aren't flowing correctly and want to trace them back...
If you want to understand whether a project is actually profitable instead of simply recording transactions...
You will probably enjoy this position.
What We're Looking For
- Construction accounting experience strongly preferred
- Full-cycle bookkeeping experience
- Understanding of job costing and project accounting
- Experience with progress billing
- Understanding of WIP and percentage-of-completion concepts
- Strong QuickBooks Online experience
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working in an environment that is busy and still developing
- Problem-solving mindset
- Willingness to take ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do
The Right Person
We are looking for someone who wants to own their position.
You don't have to know everything on day one. What matters is that you understand accounting fundamentals, can learn the construction side of the business, and are willing to dig into problems until you understand the answer.
This is not a position for someone who wants to spend the day entering transactions without understanding what those transactions mean.
It is a position for someone who wants to become the person management can rely on to know:
- Where are we financially?
- What do we owe?
- What are customers paying?
- What does each job actually cost?
- Where are our problem jobs?
- What needs to be billed?
- What needs to be fixed?
Why This Role Is Different
You will have a direct impact on how the accounting function operates.
As you learn the business, there will be opportunities to:
- Improve accounting procedures
- Build stronger job-cost controls
- Improve WIP reporting
- Establish better billing processes
- Clean up historical accounting issues
- Create repeatable month-end procedures
- Improve documentation and internal controls
- Help management understand project profitability
If you want to come into a company, learn the business, take ownership, and help build something better, this is the opportunity.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience and demonstrated construction accounting knowledge.
This role is best suited for someone who values responsibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a measurable impact.
