The Controller is responsible for the collection and organization of financial data used in business decision making to lower costs and increase financial efficiencies throughout the farm. Work with teams to focus on process improvements and cost reductions. Maintain and validate costs for all raw materials, work-in-process and final products. Develop internal control procedures and policies to improve data collection and reporting for all costs associated with operational efficiencies. Key responsibility to form and focus management teams on cost reduction programs, quality improvements and process improvements. Present recommendations to management through financial analysis and reporting.
Primary Job Functions
Ensure accurate, timely monthly closings within a 7–10 day target.
Prepare financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports for leadership.
Maintain GAAP compliance and strong internal controls tailored to aquaculture operations.
Build and maintain detailed cost accounting for feed, labor, energy, processing, packaging, logistics, and inventory.
Own and update the COGS model with clear target vs. actual visibility.
Partner with Operations and R&D to quantify impacts of trials, feed changes, mortalities, yields, off-flavor mitigation, and SOP improvements.
Standardize cost tracking for new farm development and expansions.
Lead annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes.
Analyze variances and provide proactive financial insights.
Support cash flow modeling, working capital optimization, and scenario planning.
Design and enforce financial controls across multi-state operations.
Ensure accurate biological asset accounting, inventory valuation, and capitalization of long-term assets.
Maintain audit readiness for lenders, state incentive programs, and tax authorities.
Improve and automate accounting workflows using available automation tools.
Create and maintain SOPs and work instructions.
Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and operational transparency.
Collaborate closely with Operations, R&D, Sales, HR, and executive leadership.
Provide financial guidance for strategic initiatives such as market expansion, e-commerce/DTC development, and RAS farm buildouts.
Deliver data-driven insights to support the CEO.

Role Requirements
Must be willing to travel to multiple farm sites on an as-needed basis to support month-end close, audits, inventory counts, capital project reviews, and operational alignment.
Expected to be on-site to validate financial data, observe processes directly, and ensure accounting practices accurately reflect operational reality.
Maintains strong cross-site communication and ensures consistent financial controls and documentation between multiple sites.
Estimated travel frequency: 1–2 trips per month, with flexibility for additional travel during budgeting cycles, audits, or major issues.

Job Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or other related field
Experience:
7+ years progressive accounting experience; 3+ in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
Experience in RAS aquaculture, seafood processing, or CPG.
Background in multi-site or multi-entity accounting.
Ability to design and improve SOP-driven systems.
Experience scaling accounting systems through high-growth phases.
Licenses or Certifications
Driver’s License, CPA or CMA certification preferred
