Position Summary
Temecula Valley Winery Management is seeking an organized, dependable and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to support our Finance Department.
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for accurately recording, classifying and verifying financial transactions and maintaining complete accounting records. This position assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank deposits, reconciliations, invoice processing, financial reporting and general administrative accounting functions.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working with accounting software, spreadsheets and detailed financial documentation. This position requires discretion, accuracy, strong follow-through and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Enter, classify and maintain financial transactions in the company’s accounting system.
- Review invoices, postings and supporting documents for accuracy, appropriate authorization and correct account coding.
- Process accounts-payable invoices and prepare approved payments.
- Generate customer invoices, billing statements and account documentation.
- Record cash receipts, checks, electronic payments and other financial transactions.
- Prepare bank deposits and verify that receipts balance to supporting records.
- Reconcile bank accounts, general-ledger accounts and transaction records.
- Match purchase orders, receiving documentation and invoices.
- Research and report accounting discrepancies or incomplete documentation.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records.
- Assist with accounts-receivable collection and account-status inquiries.
- Compile financial, statistical and accounting information for internal reports.
- Assist with month-end closing activities and financial reporting as directed.
- Maintain vendor, customer and account information.
- Review employee expense reports and supporting receipts for completeness and compliance.
- Assist with payroll-related documentation and recordkeeping when assigned.
- Respond professionally to routine questions from vendors, customers and internal departments.
- Follow applicable federal and California requirements and established company accounting procedures.
- Protect confidential company, employee, customer and financial information.
- Perform general Finance Department administrative duties.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of accounting, bookkeeping, accounts-payable, accounts-receivable or closely related experience.
- Working knowledge of basic accounting and bookkeeping principles.
- Experience entering and verifying financial information.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Outlook and standard office applications.
- Experience using accounting or bookkeeping software.
- Ability to reconcile financial records and identify discrepancies.
- Strong mathematical, analytical and organizational skills.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize assignments and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to communicate professionally with employees, vendors, customers and management.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative Finance Department.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or college coursework in accounting, finance or business administration.
- Two or more years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Experience processing accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Experience with bank and general-ledger reconciliations.
- Experience supporting month-end close or financial-report preparation.
- Experience working in a multi-entity, hospitality, winery, manufacturing or inventory-based business.
- Intermediate or advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with accounting, payroll, point-of-sale or enterprise-management systems.

Work Environment
This position primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses computers, accounting systems, telephones, calculators, scanners and other standard office equipment.
The employee must be able to remain seated and work at a computer for extended periods, communicate effectively in person and electronically, and occasionally move or carry office records and supplies.
Schedule
Full-time, generally Monday through Friday. Occasional additional hours may be required during month-end closing, reporting periods, audits or other Finance Department deadlines.
