Sr. Lab Technologist, R&D - for Antigen Production
Position Summary
Organizes and performs a variety of procedures in the processes of preparing high quality antigen products for Nittobo America Inc., through a variety of scientific techniques, instrumentation, and disciplines. Develops and implements new procedures and provides technical assistance to others. The Senior Laboratory Technologist has mastered the fundamentals of basic protein chemistry and performs more complex processes and is able to work with little guidance.
All duties are performed in a manner consistent with the goals and policies of the company, as well as in compliance with ISO standards where applicable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Implements large and small-scale purification and/or processing of proteins using various types of chromatography. Demonstrates proficiency in troubleshooting purification/processing issues.
Implements special products manufacture by using and applying a variety of production and testing equipment following standard operating procedures. Demonstrates proficiency in troubleshooting instrumentation issues.
Demonstrates proficiency using immuno or electrophoretic methods to determine purity of antigens and/or antibodies.
Investigates purification processes and timetables with R&D management.
Performs various tests requiring good knowledge of product and processes and consults on adjustments.
Performs filtering, concentrating, and buffer exchanging proficiently.
Performs ELISA subclass testing for IgG-Fc and IgA antigens.
Participates in and helps plan special and interdepartmental projects. Able to self-manage/work independently.
Analyzes and makes recommendations of affinity material for manufacturing use.
Conducts feasibility testing as directed.
Partners with R&D management to interpret clean-up fractions.
Prepares and submits written reports to R&D management.
Facilitates implementation of new and/or revised methods.
Adheres to industry standards regarding aseptic technique and safe handling of biohazardous
materials.
Maintains records of inventories.
Demonstrates proficiency in calibration, cleaning, and performing maintenance of equipment as
necessary and maintains calibration and maintenance logs.
Assists in the training of lab personnel as required.
Other duties may be assigned.
POSITIONS REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) and/or master’s degree from four-year college or university in immunology, biochemistry, chemistry, or life science; and five to seven years on-the-job related experience, in addition to college lab work and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Chromatography required.
