Position Type: Part-time, temporary/project-based W-2 position
ABOUT US
California Welding Institute/Advanced Weldtec, Inc is a specialized welding school and AWS Accredited Test Facility located in Lake Elsinore, California. We provide hands-on welding training, technical classroom instruction, certification testing, and professional education for individuals and companies.
We have an extensive library of approximately 300 hours of recorded classroom lectures, welding demonstrations, technical instruction, and hands-on training. We are seeking a skilled Video Editor / E-Learning Content Producer to help us organize this footage and transform it into polished, professional online courses for our membership-based training platform.
This is not a basic cut-and-crop editing position. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with footage recorded using different cameras, phones, microphones, and recording systems and turning that material into cohesive, easy-to-follow instructional lessons.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review, catalog, label, and organize a large library of existing video and audio recordings.
- Work with welding instructors and subject-matter experts to organize recordings into courses, modules, and individual lessons.
- Edit classroom lectures, hands-on demonstrations, welding footage, and other technical training content.
- Synchronize and combine footage recorded simultaneously from multiple cameras and devices.
- Select and transition between camera angles to clearly show the instructor, welding arc, equipment, workpiece, and other important details.
- Synchronize, replace, split, clean, and balance audio from multiple sources.
- Reduce background noise and improve dialogue clarity where possible.
- Correct and match lighting and color between different cameras and recording environments.
- Remove unnecessary pauses, repetitions, mistakes, setup time, and unusable footage while preserving important technical information.
- Create and insert title screens, chapter headings, instructional slides, diagrams, callouts, labels, and supporting graphics.
- Use approved AI-assisted tools to help create slides, transcripts, captions, graphics, and other course materials.
- Verify AI-generated materials against information provided by the instructor rather than assuming AI-generated technical content is accurate.
- Add captions, lesson titles, chapter markers, introductions, conclusions, and other course-navigation elements.
- Create consistent branding and visual formatting across all courses.
- Export videos in formats appropriate for online learning and membership platforms.
- Maintain organized project files, source footage, edited versions, and final exports.
- Follow established file-naming, version-control, backup, confidentiality, and content-security procedures.
- Incorporate reasonable revisions based on instructor and management feedback.
- Help develop an efficient workflow that can be used across the entire video library.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One or two years of professional video-editing experience or an equivalent portfolio demonstrating the required skills.
- Strong proficiency with iMac and Apple Products.
- Strong proficiency with DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or iMovie or a comparable professional editing platform.
- Demonstrated experience editing multicamera footage and synchronizing separate audio and video sources.
- Experience cleaning, balancing, and improving spoken-word audio.
- Ability to create professional slides, titles, graphics, callouts, and other visual learning aids.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted tools for transcription, captioning, presentation development, graphics, or video production.
- Strong file-management and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across a large, long-term project.
- Ability to understand and organize technical subject matter, even when the subject is unfamiliar.
- Ability to receive feedback and collaborate directly with instructors and subject-matter experts.
- Dependable, self-directed, and able to make sound editing decisions with limited supervision.
- Ability to work onsite at our Lake Elsinore office approximately 20 hours per week.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience editing educational courses, technical training, documentaries, webinars, or other long-form content.
- Experience with Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, Canva, PowerPoint, Descript, or similar production tools.
- Experience creating closed captions, transcripts, chapter markers, and LMS-ready video files.
- Basic understanding of instructional design or adult learning.
- Experience working with footage from action cameras, phones, professional cameras, screen recordings, and external audio recorders.
- Experience managing large media libraries and long-term editing projects.
- Interest in welding, skilled trades, manufacturing, construction, or technical education. Welding experience is helpful but not required.
WORK ARRANGEMENT
This is a part-time, project-based position requiring approximately 16-24 hours per week. The weekly schedule is flexible and will be mutually arranged, but the work will be performed primarily onsite at our Lake Elsinore office because of the volume of footage, equipment requirements, file security, and need for collaboration with instructors.
The project is expected to continue for an extended period based on performance, editing pace, available footage, and course-development priorities.
SELECTION PROCESS
Final candidates will be asked to complete a short editing assignment using sample footage provided by California Welding Institute. The assignment will test multicamera synchronization, audio clarity, instructional pacing, slide or graphic integration, and file organization.
