Full Job Description

Position Summary
The Security Officer supports a safe, calm, and recovery-supportive environment for residents, staff, and visitors at SeaChange. This role combines facility security functions with strong professionalism, de-escalation skills, and a trauma-informed approach appropriate for a women’s recovery setting.

Security Officers maintain a visible presence, monitor access points and camera systems, complete routine rounds, respond to safety concerns, and document incidents with accuracy and professionalism. This role is not clinical, but it is mission-critical to resident stability and community wellbeing.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Reports To: Chief Clinical Officer (CCO)

Essential Functions & Responsibilities Facility Access & Safety Monitoring

· Monitor entrances/exits, common areas, and exterior grounds to prevent unauthorized access or unsafe activity.

· Conduct routine interior/exterior rounds on a scheduled basis.

· Monitor security camera systems and report concerns immediately according to protocol.

· Maintain professional key-control procedures, visitor logs, and incident escalation pathways.

· Maintain situational awareness of resident movement and facility activity while preserving dignity and privacy.

Recovery-Supportive Security Presence

· Maintain a calm, respectful presence that helps reduce conflict and supports emotional safety.

· Use verbal de-escalation techniques and professional boundaries at all times.

· Support staff in reinforcing house expectations (without power struggles, intimidation, or resident “shaming”).

· Maintain appropriate interactions with residents (no arguing, threatening, sarcasm, or emotionally reactive behavior).

Incident Response & Documentation

· Respond promptly to disturbances, policy violations posing safety risks, emergencies, or crisis situations.

· Contact emergency responders (911 / EMS / Fire / Police) as required.

· Write clear, objective, and detailed incident reports (timely, accurate, professional tone).

· Preserve the chain of communication with on-call leadership and follow internal reporting procedures.

Compliance, Confidentiality & Professional Conduct

· Maintain confidentiality and follow privacy requirements, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, as applicable.

· Demonstrate strong professionalism: punctuality, uniform compliance (if applicable), and respectful communication.

· Participate in ongoing training and drills (fire safety, evacuation, overdose response, emergency preparedness).

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED.

· 1+ year experience in security, corrections, law enforcement, public safety, or related field.

· Ability to write clear incident reports and use basic technology (cameras, logs, email, etc.).

· Must demonstrate strong judgment, emotional control, and professionalism.

· Valid driver’s license (if transport or off-site duties apply).

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in behavioral health, shelter/housing programs, recovery residences, residential treatment, or trauma-exposed populations.

· Crisis Prevention / de-escalation training (CPI, verbal intervention, etc.).

· CPR/First Aid (preferred) and Naloxone training (preferred).

· Military or law enforcement background is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements

· Prolonged walking/standing.

· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.

· Ability to conduct rounds outdoors in varied weather conditions.

· Ability to respond rapidly in emergency situations.

Important Notes

· This is a safety and security role in a women’s recovery environment and requires mature, respectful communication and consistent boundaries.

· Employment is contingent upon background screening consistent with South Carolina requirements and SeaChange policy.

This is a position for weekends. The shifts are 12 hours. There may be additional coverage needed throughout the week (8 hour shifts) or to fill in as needed.

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24.0 – 40.0 per week
