Children’s Advocate – Horry and Georgetown Counties

The Children's Advocate is responsible for ensuring that all victims of abuse referred to at the Children's Recovery Center are treated with dignity, respect, courtesy and sensitivity. The Children’s Advocate acts as the child's personal advocate. It is anticipated the position will work primarily from the Myrtle Beach Office and will work in our Georgetown office when needed. Work in the Georgetown Office will vary week to week.

Duties:The following description covers the most significant duties performed but does not exclude other work assignments not specifically mentioned.

1. Conduct pre-appointment client intakes for Myrtle Beach and Georgetown clients and coordinate with CRC staff and MDT partners to schedule clients.

2. Explaining the Children's Recovery Center's forensic interview and forensic medical exam process to the child and parent/guardian and answers any questions they may have about this process.

3. Aids each eligible victim in applying for assistance, social service, and counseling assistance. Ensure all victims of crimes are aware of their rights in each case.

4. Intervenes with and seeks assistance from appropriate agencies and works with other parties as considered appropriate through the investigative process.

5. Follows updates and changes to applicable laws related to victims’ rights. Maintains familiarity with the statutes pertaining to protection/restraining orders, etc., and follows established procedures for obtaining required orders as necessary for a victim.

6. Ensures all measures necessary are taken to protect the victims and witnesses from further harassment, intimidation, or abuse throughout the criminal justice system.

7. Attends bond hearings and other proceedings with the victim or on behalf of the victim if they cannot attend at their request. Speaks on behalf of the victim and or keeps notations and later informs victims of the outcome.

8. Contact referral agencies whose assistance may be needed to aid in the investigation and complete the paperwork required for each agency.

9. Prepares, processes, and transmits various reports as needed and provides the Executive Director with all statistical and financial information required to maintain existing and potential funding through governmental and private grants.

10. Attends required periodic training sessions. Attend seminars and conferences as required to remain knowledgeable of operations and promote job performance. Maintains VSP (Victim Service Provider) status by attending appropriate training annually.

11. Acts as the Georgetown MDT Coordinator, scheduling and facilitating all MDT (multidisciplinary team) Georgetown Case Review Meetings held once a month.

12. If Bilingual translate for other employees and MDT partners when necessary for Spanish speaking clients and families.

A. Bilingual preferred – English/Spanish

B. A bachelor's degree in an appropriate field such as criminal justice, psychology, or social work. Must be at least 21 years of age and must possess a valid SC Driver's license.

C. Demonstrate effective communication skills both written and verbal.

D. Demonstrate a wide range of computer skills including and not limited to: Microsoft Office, Adobe, Excel.

A. Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director

B. Supervision Exercised: volunteers and clerical support.

C. Cooperative Relationships: Works in cooperation with Horry and Georgetown County Victims’ Advocates, Horry County MDT Coordinator, Forensic Coordinator, and Forensic Interviewers.

Pay: $55,000.00 per year
