Overview
Both Unit Directors manages all aspects of daily operations for a designated Boys & Girls Club facility, ensuring delivery of high-quality youth development programming in safe, engaging environments that facilitate achievement of positive outcomes. This role provides direct leadership to program staff, maintains facility operations, builds community partnerships, and creates club culture where youth develop skills and confidence for success. The position requires both operational management capability and youth development expertise to balance administrative responsibilities with mission-focused programming
Responsibilities
In tandem directors direct overall daily operations of assigned club unit with primary responsibility for member safety, program quality, staff supervision, facility management, community relations, and membership administration.
Create club environment that facilitates achievement of youth development outcomes through positive culture, engaging programming, and supportive relationships between staff and members.
Supervise, train, and evaluate program staff including hiring recommendations, scheduling, performance management, and professional development to build capable team aligned with organizational mission.
Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate unit programs, services, and activities ensuring alignment with stated objectives, member needs and interests, and organizational quality standards.
Ensure maintenance of healthy, safe, and welcoming physical environment through facility oversight, equipment management, supply procurement, and coordination with maintenance staff.
Exercise authority in addressing member discipline issues utilizing guidance and discipline plans that balance accountability with developmental appropriateness and trauma-informed practices.
Conduct new member and parent orientations communicating club expectations, program opportunities, safety protocols, and engagement pathways that welcome families into club community.
Manage administrative systems including weekly operational reports, incident documentation, attendance tracking, outcome data collection, and membership records.
Compile regular statistical reports reflecting program activities, member attendance, participation patterns, and outcome achievement for leadership review and strategic planning.
Process employee payroll submissions from part-time staff, verifying accuracy of hours worked and ensuring timely payment processing in coordination with finance department.
Coordinate facility use by outside groups including scheduling, fee collection, access arrangements, and ensuring compliance with facility use policies and insurance requirements.
Lead weekly unit staff meetings to communicate organizational updates, address operational challenges, coordinate program planning, and build team cohesion among staff.
Conduct regular program area observations and drop-ins to monitor quality, provide feedback to staff, ensure safety compliance, and maintain visible presence with members.
Develop and maintain partnerships with parents, community leaders, schools, and local organizations to strengthen program resources, increase enrollment, and build community support.
Manage unit budget including expenditure monitoring, purchase approvals, fundraising event coordination, and fiscal accountability for resources allocated to facility operations.
Represent club in community settings through school visits, community group meetings, and off-site special events that increase visibility and promote organizational mission.
Coordinate special events bringing unit staff together as team to deliver quality programs, celebrate member achievements, and engage families in club activities.
Administer parent volunteer programs and facilitate parent focus groups gathering input on programming, addressing concerns, and strengthening home-club partnerships.
Direct supervision of program assistants, activity specialists, and part-time staff assigned to unit operations. Responsible for hiring recommendations, work schedules, task assignments, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and termination recommendations. Provides coaching and professional development to frontline staff working directly with youth.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in youth development, education, recreation, social work, human services, or related field required. Alternate pathway: Associate degree and 5 years of experience at a youth serving organization.
Experience: Minimum two years of experience in Boys & Girls Clubs or similar youth-serving organization planning and supervising activities based on developmental needs of children and adolescents. Demonstrated success working directly with young people in program settings. Experience in personnel supervision, facilities management, and community engagement.

Organizational capability to manage competing priorities including programming, administration, staff supervision, and community relations. Problem-solving skills to address operational challenges, staff performance issues, and member or family concerns. Understanding of youth development principles and ability to translate concepts into practical programming. Capacity to recruit, train, and retain quality staff who connect effectively with diverse youth populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in related field including education, social work, youth development, or nonprofit management. Three or more years of progressive experience in youth development settings with demonstrated leadership responsibilities. Experience within Boys & Girls Clubs movement with understanding of organizational frameworks and national program models. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and positive youth development approaches.
Fundraising experience including special event coordination and community resource development. Bilingual capabilities to engage diverse families and community members. Certifications in youth development, nonprofit management, or related professional credentials.
