Full Job Description

Elite Pipe Layer and Laborer – Heavy Civil

Highly skilled and motivated pipe layer/laborer needed. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of installing underground utilities and performing complex excavation work with precision and safety across heavy civil, industrial, water/wastewater, and commercial projects. This individual takes pride in their craft, maintains the highest standards of quality, and is driven to continually grow within the construction industry.

Technical Expertise - Pipe Installation and Utility Work

Install storm, sewer, water and electrical systems using various materials including PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, and concrete pipe.
Accurately set and maintain grade using lasers, transits, and pipe lasers for precise installation.
Prepare, bed, and backfill pipe installations in accordance with project specifications and compaction requirements.
Safely work in trenches utilizing trench boxes, manhole boxes, hydraulic shoring systems, and slide rail systems.
Construct and install manholes, catch basins, inlets, and related structures.
Assist in dewatering and groundwater management throughout pipe installation and excavation activities.
Support operators by signaling, spotting, and maintaining open, efficient communication during all excavation and pipe-laying operations.

Mass Excavation / Fully Shored

Perform and support large-scale excavation and intricate trenching operations for underground utilities and structural installations.
Set up, install, and manage trench and shoring protection systems including hydraulic shoring, slide rail shoring, trench box/shielding.
Monitor trench safety, soil conditions, and shoring integrity throughout excavation and backfill operations.
Coordinate with operators and foremen to ensure material movement and excavation progress meet production and safety goals.

Site Operations

Read and interpret construction drawings, profiles, and detail sheets to execute layout and installations correctly.
Maintain proper trench alignment, grade, and elevation control.
Support excavation, grading, and backfill operations to meet specifications and production goals.
Assist in layout, staging, and daily coordination with supervisors and superintendents.

Safety Standards Compliance

Maintain exceptional safety standards and uphold a culture of accountability.
Follow OSHA, company, and project-specific safety protocols without exception.
Participate in daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and toolbox talks.
Properly utilize PPE, trench protection, and rigging equipment at all times.
Exercise stop-work authority if unsafe conditions exist.

Hazard Awareness

Identify and mitigate hazards such as underground utilities, trench instability, heavy equipment operation, and confined spaces.
Apply safe excavation, shoring, and entry practices to prevent incidents.

Emergency Readiness

Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to equipment malfunctions or site emergencies.
CPR and First Aid training preferred.

Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)

Confined Space Entry
Shoring and Excavation Competent Person
Rigging and Signaling
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
CPR/First Aid
CDL

Equipment and Tools

Proficient in using hand and power tools for pipe cutting, jointing, and bedding.
Experience operating compactors, plate tampers, and trench/pipe lasers.
Perform basic maintenance and inspection on assigned tools and equipment.
