Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Lead/Master Teacher to join our early childhood education programs in Fairfield and Vallejo, CA.

This is a hands-on classroom leadership position. The Lead/Master Teacher will actively teach and work with children while also serving as a model, mentor, trainer, and instructional leader for other teaching staff.

We are looking for an exceptional early childhood educator who can demonstrate what high-quality teaching looks like in practice. The ideal candidate will be comfortable leading a classroom, implementing curriculum, completing child observations and assessments, mentoring teachers, modeling effective teaching strategies, and providing practical support and training to staff.

Experience with Frog Street Curriculum, DRDP, and ASQ is highly preferred.

Classroom Teaching Responsibilities

The Lead/Master Teacher will maintain an active presence in the classroom and:

Provide direct care, supervision, and instruction to children.
Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
Implement Frog Street Curriculum with fidelity.
Create and maintain an organized, welcoming, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
Establish and model consistent classroom routines, schedules, and expectations.
Facilitate small-group and whole-group learning experiences.
Promote children's language, literacy, cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.
Use positive guidance and developmentally appropriate behavior-support strategies.
Help children develop appropriate alternative behaviors, problem-solving skills, self-regulation, and social competencies.
Recognize and respond appropriately to children's individual developmental needs, family backgrounds, experiences, and home cultures.
Maintain active supervision and ensure children's health and safety at all times.
Maintain a clean, organized classroom consistent with licensing, health, and safety requirements.

Curriculum, DRDP & ASQ

Demonstrate strong implementation of Frog Street Curriculum and support curriculum fidelity throughout the program.
Conduct meaningful child observations and maintain accurate documentation.
Complete and support Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) assessments within required timelines.
Use DRDP results to guide lesson planning and individualized instruction.
Support implementation of Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) developmental screenings.
Help teachers understand how observations, DRDP results, and ASQ information connect to children's individual learning needs.
Identify children's strengths and areas requiring additional support.
Support appropriate follow-up when developmental or behavioral concerns are identified.

Teacher Leadership, Mentoring & Training

The Lead/Master Teacher will serve as a model teacher and instructional leader while remaining actively involved in classroom teaching.

Responsibilities include:

Lead, mentor, coach, and train teachers and assistant teachers.
Model effective teaching practices directly in the classroom.
Demonstrate Frog Street lessons, learning activities, and instructional strategies.
Support teachers with lesson planning and curriculum implementation.
Model effective classroom routines, transitions, learning centers, positive guidance, and teacher-child interactions.
Observe teaching practices and provide constructive, actionable feedback.
Help teachers strengthen classroom management and instructional practices.
Train and support staff in completing quality DRDP observations and documentation.
Provide guidance regarding ASQ and developmental screening practices.
Support new teachers through onboarding, modeling, and classroom-based training.
Identify areas where individual teachers or classrooms need additional support.
Provide follow-up coaching to ensure new strategies are successfully implemented.
Promote professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with Site Supervisors and program leadership to maintain consistent expectations and classroom quality across our Fairfield and Vallejo programs.

Family Engagement

Build positive and professional relationships with families.
Communicate regularly regarding children's learning, development, and classroom experiences.
Participate in parent conferences.
Help families understand their child's developmental progress.
Support teaching staff in strengthening family communication and engagement.
Approach family communication with professionalism, respect, and cultural awareness.

QualificationsRequired

Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
Appropriate California Early Childhood Education coursework.
Strong preschool and/or infant-toddler classroom experience.
Experience as a Lead Teacher, Master Teacher, Mentor Teacher, or similar classroom leader.
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, train, and support other educators.
Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
Strong classroom management and positive-guidance skills.
Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in Fairfield and Vallejo, CA.
Must successfully complete Community Care Licensing background clearance requirements.

Highly Preferred

California Child Development Master Teacher Permit or higher
Experience with Frog Street Curriculum
Strong working knowledge of DRDP
Experience with ASQ
Infant/Toddler coursework and experience
Preschool teaching experience
Experience coaching, mentoring, or training early childhood educators
Experience supporting children with behavioral, developmental, or social-emotional needs
Site Supervisor Permit or qualifications toward a Site Supervisor Permit
Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certification

We are looking for an educator who can develop other educators while remaining an exceptional classroom teacher.

This is not primarily an office or administrative position. The Lead/Master Teacher will be actively engaged with children and teaching staff in the classroom.

The successful candidate should be able to enter a classroom, recognize what is working and what needs improvement, and then demonstrate, model, coach, and support stronger teaching practices.

We want someone who leads by example and understands that strong early childhood programs are built through excellent teaching, consistent routines, meaningful relationships, quality curriculum implementation, assessment, coaching, and accountability.
