Justin-Siena is a co-educational independent Catholic high school sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. We serve more than 670 students from Napa, Solano, and Sonoma Counties. Our 40-acre campus is home to a college preparatory curriculum, a competitive interscholastic athletic program, a highly regarded performing arts program, and an array of co-curricular opportunities.
Position Summary
Under the general direction of the President, oversee the human resources of the school including employee hiring, onboarding, benefit selection and enrollment, legal compliance and training, salary administration and policy development and interpretation. Acts as a strategic HR thought partner collaborating with the leadership team. Also ensures that infrastructure and practices are in place that facilitates sound personnel management.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Develop policies and procedures that are clear and applicable to the organization, making sure that they comply with the requirements of State and Federal laws; maintain an Employee Handbook that reflects current school practices and policies and which is also a legal document that is useful in the defense of the school when necessary; keep abreast of
changes to State and Federal law on an on-going basis and evaluate application to Justin-Siena; interpret internal policies and applicable laws for supervisory staff as well as for front-line staff; responsible for ensuring that all employees are in compliance with required Child Protection training requirements annually; advise members of the Leadership Team when practices should be put in place or altered to conform to legal compliance.
Monitor trends in benefit costs, maintaining positive relationships with the benefit broker; analyze, articulate and recommend benefit offerings or changes and be able to communicate them to staff; conduct annual benefit Open Enrollment sessions giving staff the opportunity to make informed choices in their benefit selection; review monthly invoices from TPA and correct any issues in a timely manner; provide on-going support to faculty and staff as it concerns benefit elections and questions; monitor and analyze employee FSA/DCA/HRA elections
monthly, intervene to resolve disputed balances with the vendor, investigate employee questions and issues; responsible for compliance with all reporting requirements.
Develop and maintain current job descriptions for every position in the school; update and revise job descriptions as needed; classify job positions accurately so as to comply with State and Federal wage and hour requirements.
Work closely with the VP for Finance to develop competitive salary and compensation structures within the school; participate in salary surveys as needed; develop annual Compensation Arrangements for staff that reflects their job responsibilities, work schedule and compensation, including ancillary duties; provide input to salary decisions.
Create performance evaluation tools and provide supervisors with training to implement the tools successfully; review completed evaluations, especially those with sub-par performance issues to ensure legal compliance; assist supervisory staff with the development of plans of assistance for staff who need remedial support or who have violated a policy or procedure; review plans of assistance and annual review to ensure performance is properly documented and signatures are in place.
Assist supervisory staff with the development of disciplinary techniques and strategies as the need arises; write and review documentation to ensure compliance with internal policies and external State and Federal non-discrimination practices.

Bachelor degree in human resource management or a related business field

Demonstrated, successful Human Resource management experience of 5-7 years.

Prefer experience in a non-profit setting.

Broad experience gained from time spent in a variety of HR disciplines including, but not exclusively limited to: Compensation, Benefits Administration, Payroll Management, Employment, Employee Relations and Compliance.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills in written and oral form, in order to disseminate program direction and philosophy and interrelate to administrators, faculty and staff, volunteers and constituents.

Demonstrated intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Professional Office programs including Excel, Word and Publisher, as well as in using Outlook. Requires the ability to learn the management software system.

Demonstrated strong technical knowledge of the employment laws that govern a non-profit, religious based institution.

Ability to cooperate as a “team” member with other school colleagues and administration in an effort to meet key initiatives.

Organizational skills necessary to meet deadlines, work on multiple issues simultaneously and that satisfies the paperwork requirements of the position.
Ordinary office environment. Lifting is minimal.
Position Reports to: President
Position hours: 12 month, salaried position Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000
