The Joint is the best-priced, highest-quality dispensary in Illinois — and we need a Marketing Manager who can make sure the market knows it. This is a senior, hands-on creative role responsible for the full production of every asset The Joint puts into the world: digital, social, print, in-store, and beyond. If you can concept it, design it, build it, and launch it yourself — without farming it out — this is your role.
The Role
The Marketing Manager owns The Joint's entire creative and digital output. You are the brand: you set the visual direction, produce all assets from scratch, manage every digital channel, and drive campaigns that move product and build loyalty. This is not a coordinator role with vendors doing the heavy lifting — you are the production house. You will work directly with ownership and store management to align marketing with business goals, and you will be accountable for measurable results.
What You'll Own
Creative Direction & Brand Identity
- Own and evolve The Joint's visual brand identity across all touchpoints — digital, print, in-store, and experiential.
- Establish and enforce brand standards: typography, color, tone of voice, photography style, and design systems.
- Develop compelling creative concepts for campaigns, product launches, seasonal promotions, and brand moments.
- Ensure visual and message consistency across every asset the brand produces — nothing goes out that isn't on-brand.
Full Creative Production
- Design and produce all creative assets in-house: social graphics, digital ads, email templates, menus, signage, print collateral, merchandise, and promotional materials.
- Shoot and edit photo and video content for use across all channels — product photography, staff content, in-store captures, and event coverage.
- Produce short-form video and reels optimized for Instagram, TikTok, and other relevant platforms.
- Build and maintain branded templates that the broader team can use for day-to-day content needs.
- Manage print production from file prep through vendor coordination and delivery.
Website & Digital Presence
- Own The Joint's website (thejointil.com) end-to-end: design, content, UX, menu integration, SEO, and ongoing updates.
- Maintain and optimize the online menu experience — ensure products, pricing, and promotions are accurate and visually presented at their best.
- Monitor site analytics and continuously improve performance, traffic, and conversion.
- Manage local SEO, Google Business Profile, and online reputation — reviews, listings, and local search visibility.
Social Media Management
- Manage all social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and others) with a consistent posting cadence and high-quality content.
- Build and maintain a monthly content calendar aligned to product drops, promotions, and brand campaigns.
- Write copy, design visuals, produce video, schedule posts, and actively engage with the community.
- Monitor platform analytics and report on reach, engagement, follower growth, and campaign performance monthly.
- Stay ahead of platform algorithm changes, cannabis advertising restrictions, and emerging social trends.
Campaigns, Promotions & Events
- Develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns tied to product launches, seasonal moments, and store promotions.
- Build and manage the email and SMS marketing program — list growth, segmentation, campaign design, and performance tracking.
- Support in-store events, vendor days, budtender appreciation events, and community activations with marketing materials and digital promotion.
- Track campaign performance against defined KPIs and deliver clear, actionable reports to ownership.
Market Intelligence & Strategy
- Monitor competitor marketing, pricing, and promotional activity; bring actionable intelligence to ownership regularly.
- Stay current on Illinois cannabis market trends, customer preferences, and emerging brands.
- Make data-driven recommendations on where to invest marketing effort for maximum return.
- Assist in the development of annual marketing plans and budgets.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of marketing experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end creative production — concept through execution.
- Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects) and/or Canva Pro.
- Demonstrated experience managing social media channels for a consumer brand with measurable growth results.
- Hands-on video production and editing skills — you shoot, cut, and deliver finished content yourself.
- Website management experience (WordPress, Dutchie, or comparable CMS); basic HTML/CSS a plus.
- Email and SMS marketing platform experience (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or equivalent).
- Cannabis industry experience strongly preferred — familiarity with Illinois advertising regulations and platform restrictions is a significant advantage.
- Strong copywriting skills: you write clear, compelling, on-brand copy as naturally as you design.
- Highly organized, self-directed, and deadline-driven — you manage your own workload without hand-holding.
- Portfolio required: must include social content, design work, and video samples. Links to live accounts preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Design, Communications, or equivalent experience.
