Life Celebration Coordinator

Path to Licensed Funeral Director — Funeral Director in Training (FDIT) Program

You Already Have the Heart for This

If you graduated from a hospitality, hotel management, or event planning program, chances are no one ever mentioned funeral service as a career path. That's not an accident — it's just not on most hospitality programs' radar. But the instinct that drew you to hospitality — creating a moment that matters, taking care of people, managing a hundred details so everyone else can just be present — is exactly what makes a great funeral director.

This role is built for someone with that instinct who is willing to learn a profession they've probably never considered. You'll start by supporting the logistics and coordination of Celebration of Life events — the part of the job that will feel familiar right away — while working toward something hospitality careers rarely offer: a licensed credential with real growth potential behind it.

We'll support your path to the required coursework and licensure hours, so the education requirement isn't something you have to figure out alone.

Job Summary

This is an entry-level role and the starting point of our Funeral Director in Training (FDIT) program. You'll support the planning and logistics of personalized Celebration of Life events — scheduling, room and vendor coordination, order forms, and day-of setup — while working alongside licensed Funeral Directors and the Event Manager to learn the profession firsthand. As you progress, you'll take on the coursework, mentorship, and apprenticeship hours required for state licensure, with the goal of becoming a fully licensed Funeral Director.

What You'll Do

Service & Event Logistics (Where You'll Start)

Support the planning and coordination of personalized services, including scheduling, room reservations, and vendor and inventory coordination
Maintain and process order forms, checklists, and pre- and post-service documentation accurately and on schedule
Assist with the setup and breakdown of services and events, working alongside location staff
Maintain a sense of empathy and support in every interaction with clients and families

Training & Licensure Path (Where You're Headed)

Progress through our FDIT curriculum, mentorship, and apprenticeship requirements toward state licensure as a Funeral Director — building on the associate degree (or higher) you already hold
Work closely with licensed Funeral Directors to learn ceremony planning, family arrangement conferences, and service execution
Assist with training documentation and location staff development as part of your own professional growth

We're especially interested in recent graduates and early-career professionals from hospitality-adjacent backgrounds who haven't previously considered funeral service — no prior experience in the profession required. Strong fits often come from:

Minimum Requirements

Education

Associate degree required (minimum)
Bachelor's degree preferred

Certifications / Licenses

Valid state driver's license in good standing, with an acceptable driving record
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
Commitment to pursuing Funeral Director licensure requirements, including mortuary science coursework, in Florida

Experience

No prior funeral service experience required
Experience or education in hospitality, event planning, customer service, healthcare, or a related service field is strongly valued

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong logistical planning and multitasking abilities, with exemplary organization and attention to detail
Genuine compassion and the ability to remain calm, composed, and empathetic under pressure
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Strong work ethic and the ability to adapt to competing deadlines
Intermediate Excel and other MS Office Suite skills

Work Conditions

Work Environment

Mostly indoor work, with occasional outdoor events
Comply with company dress code policy

Work Hours

Some flexible on-call hours outside normal business hours, with short notice
Limited travel between locations

Physical Demands — Setup & Breakdown

Ability to move and reposition furniture, tables, chairs, displays, and catering items to prepare spaces for services and events
Ability to set up and break down linens, decor, and other event and service items
Ability to lift and carry event materials, up to 25 pounds
Standing, walking, bending, and kneeling as needed during setup and breakdown
Sitting for extended periods, up to several hours per day, when performing administrative and coordination tasks

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
