School of Rock Naples is looking for an energetic, patient and dependable educator to lead our Little Wing and Rookies early childhood music programs.
This is not a traditional music instructor position. While a basic understanding of music is helpful, we are primarily looking for someone who is exceptional with young children. The ideal candidate may come from an early childhood education, elementary education, preschool, childcare, children’s recreation, theater, dance or youth-programming background.
We can train the right person to teach the musical content. What is most important is the ability to connect with children, manage a classroom, communicate with parents and create an environment where young students feel comfortable, successful and excited to participate.
About the Programs
Little Wing is designed primarily for children ages 4–5. Classes use movement, games, singing, rhythm activities and hands-on musical experiences to introduce foundational concepts in a fun, age-appropriate way.
Rookies is designed primarily for children ages 6–7 who have little or no previous musical experience. Students explore vocals, guitar, bass, drums and keyboards while learning introductory concepts such as rhythm, song structure, listening and playing together as a group.
Both programs are built around participation, exploration and helping children develop confidence and a love of music.
Responsibilities
The Early Childhood Music Program Director will:
- Lead engaging weekly Little Wing and Rookies group classes
- Follow School of Rock’s established curriculum and lesson materials
- Create a fun, structured and encouraging classroom environment
- Use games, movement, singing and hands-on activities to keep young students involved
- Introduce students to basic rhythm, listening and musical concepts
- Help Rookies students safely explore multiple instruments
- Adjust activities based on students’ ages, personalities and developmental needs
- Manage transitions, attention spans and classroom behavior in a positive way
- Learn each student’s personality, strengths and areas where they may need additional support
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents
- Provide parents and school leadership with updates about student participation and progress
- Prepare classrooms, instruments and materials before each class
- Keep teaching spaces organized, clean and safe
- Work with the school’s management team to grow and strengthen both programs
- Help create a welcoming first experience for families entering School of Rock
What We Are Looking For
Our ideal candidate:
- Genuinely enjoys working with children between the ages of 4 and 7
- Has experience in early childhood education, elementary education, preschool, childcare, children’s programs, camps, recreation, theater, dance or a similar setting
- Understands how to communicate with young children in a patient and encouraging way
- Can confidently lead a group and maintain a positive classroom structure
- Is enthusiastic, expressive and comfortable being playful and animated
- Is dependable, organized and prepared
- Communicates professionally with parents and coworkers
- Is comfortable learning and following an established curriculum
- Is open to coaching, training and ongoing development
- Can create an inclusive environment for children with different personalities, learning styles and experience levels
Music Experience
Advanced musical ability is not required.
Some experience singing, keeping a steady rhythm or playing a musical instrument is helpful, but we are willing to train the right educator in the School of Rock curriculum and the basic musical skills needed to lead these classes.
For this position, strong teaching ability, classroom management and experience working with young children are more important than being an advanced musician.
Preferred Qualifications
- Early childhood education or elementary education experience
- Preschool, daycare, camp or youth-program leadership experience
- Experience leading group activities for young children
- Coursework or a degree in education, child development, music education, theater, recreation or a related field
- Experience communicating with parents
- Basic singing, rhythm or instrumental experience
- CPR or first-aid certification
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be dependable and able to maintain a consistent weekly schedule
- Must be comfortable working with groups of young children
- Must be able to successfully complete all required background screening
- Must be able to safely move, arrange and demonstrate classroom instruments and equipment
- Must be available for training, staff communication and occasional school events

A successful Little Wing and Rookies Director does not simply teach children about music. They make children feel welcomed, help them build confidence and give families a positive introduction to School of Rock.
The right person knows how to turn a lesson into an experience. They can keep a room of young children engaged, respond calmly when a child is hesitant or distracted and make learning feel like play.
