Manufacturing Design Engineer (Aluminum Fabrication & CNC Systems)
Location: Nashville, GA
Company: Coyote MFG Co.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly capable Manufacturing Design Engineer to lead the design and continuous improvement of aluminum components, assemblies, and the processes used to produce them.
This role is not limited to product design. Every design must be built for efficient, repeatable manufacturing, supported by properly engineered fixtures and jigs that increase throughput, reduce variation, and improve capacity.
The ideal candidate understands that great engineering doesn’t stop at the drawing—it ensures the product can be built faster, better, and at lower cost every time.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Design aluminum components and assemblies using aluminum pipe, structural shapes, and machined parts
- Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings ready for production
- Ensure all designs are optimized for manufacturability, repeatability, and cost efficiency
- Maintain revision control and documentation for all engineered products
Fixture & Jig Design (Critical Responsibility)
- Design and implement fixtures and jigs for every product and process
- Ensure all designs are supported by tooling that:
- Reduces build time
- Improves consistency and quality
- Minimizes operator variability
- Continuously improve existing fixtures to increase throughput and capacity
- Work directly with production teams to validate and refine tooling in real-world conditions
Manufacturing Process Improvement
- Evaluate current production processes and identify inefficiencies
- Develop creative, practical engineering solutions to significantly improve:
- Throughput
- Labor efficiency
- Workflow
- Standardize processes to reduce variation and increase repeatability
- Collaborate with operations leadership to align engineering improvements with production goals
BOM Development & Material Optimization
- Create and maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) for all products
- Account for material drops, scrap, and machine-specific yields in BOM structure
- Ensure BOMs reflect real-world production consumption—not theoretical usage
- Work closely with purchasing and operations to support cost reduction initiatives
CNC Programming & Equipment Integration
- Prepare and load drawings and files into CNC equipment, including:
- CNC Laser Tube Cutter
- CNC Bending Machines
- Ensure programs are optimized for efficiency, accuracy, and minimal waste
- Troubleshoot programming or design issues impacting production performance
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work directly with production teams to ensure designs translate effectively to the shop floor
- Partner with maintenance and operations on equipment capabilities and limitations
- Support new product launches from concept through full production integration
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related field) or equivalent experience
- Strong experience in manufacturing-focused design, not just theoretical engineering
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks or similar)
- Proven experience designing fixtures, jigs, and production tooling
- Deep understanding of aluminum fabrication processes, including cutting, bending, and welding
- Experience creating accurate, production-level BOMs
- Strong knowledge of CNC equipment and file preparation
- Ability to read and create detailed technical drawings
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CNC tube laser cutting and bending processes
- Familiarity with nesting, material optimization, and yield improvement
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and process standardization
- Hands-on shop experience working directly with fabrication teams
What Success Looks Like in This Role
- Every product has a repeatable, efficient build process supported by proper tooling
- Throughput increases without adding labor
- BOM accuracy improves, reducing inventory discrepancies and cost overruns
- Scrap and material waste are reduced through smarter design and planning
- Production teams can build faster, with less variation and fewer errors
- Engineering becomes a driver of operational performance, not a bottleneck
Why This Role Matters
This position directly impacts production efficiency, cost control, and our ability to scale. The right candidate will bridge the gap between engineering and operations, ensuring that every design contributes to a faster, more efficient manufacturing process.
