Full Job Description

Position Description

This is a non-civil service position with the Chancery Court Clerk & Master’s Office. The position title is Deputy Clerk and Master 1/Calendar Clerk. The position serves as the main liaison between the Clerk & Master’s Office and the Chancellor, and is responsible for monitoring and managing case progress and disposition.

Typical Duties

Communicate verbally and in writing with attorneys and pro se litigants regarding case status.
Prepare and maintain case reports for the Chancellor.
Draft case dismissal and case monitoring orders for the Chancellor.
Review and process case filings into case management system.
Perform clerical duties as assigned with accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Paralegal certificate or other legal training or experience, especially legal writing
Interest in a career in the legal profession
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
Knowledge of legal terminology and procedure
Bilingual
