Latitude is seeking a Senior Patent Prosecution Attorney for a permanent placement opportunity with a highly regarded and growing intellectual property boutique in Southern California. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced patent attorney who enjoys managing sophisticated patent portfolios, serving as a trusted advisor to innovative technology companies and leading research universities, and developing intellectual property strategies that support both commercialization and enforcement objectives.
The successful attorney will serve as the primary relationship attorney for key clients while leading the prosecution and strategic management of high-value domestic and international patent portfolios. This position offers extensive client contact, significant autonomy, meaningful mentorship opportunities, and the ability to work alongside an accomplished team of intellectual property practitioners on cutting-edge technologies. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Pasadena, California.

4+ years of patent prosecution experience

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school

Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar

Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Experience managing sophisticated U.S. and international patent portfolios

Experience prosecuting patent families involved in inter partes review (IPR), patent litigation, and/or licensing matters

Experience serving as the primary relationship attorney for sophisticated technology clients is strongly preferred

Technical experience involving digital signal processing, image signal processing, or related technologies is a plus

Excellent analytical, drafting, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Serve as the primary relationship attorney for industry and university clients

Lead the prosecution and strategic management of sophisticated U.S. and international patent portfolios

Develop patent prosecution strategies aligned with clients’ licensing, commercialization, and enforcement objectives

Draft and prosecute patent applications involving complex technologies

Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions, conduct examiner interviews, and manage appeals as appropriate

Analyze prior art, litigation records, and invalidity positions to strengthen patent protection

Prepare and review claim charts supporting infringement, licensing, and enforcement efforts

Mentor junior attorneys and patent agents while collaborating across legal and technical teams

Build trusted relationships with inventors, in-house counsel, research institutions, and business stakeholders

Serve as the lead attorney for sophisticated technology companies and leading research universities

Manage high-value patent portfolios with meaningful strategic responsibility

Pay: The salary range for this position is $160,000 to $180,000+, depending upon experience, qualifications, technical background, and overall fit. This position is also eligible for performance-based bonuses. Pay is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, work experience, qualifications, credentials, technical expertise, and location.
