About Bag Lady's Fry Joint

Bag Lady's Fry Joint is Nashville's original fry-first fast casual restaurant, located in the Buchanan Street Arts District in North Nashville. We have earned multiple Nashville Scene Best Fries awards, national media coverage, and a loyal community built on flavor and neighborhood pride. We are an emerging brand with real momentum and we are building the team that takes us to the next level.

The Role

We are hiring two Drink Program Specialists to build and run our bar and beverage experience. This is a newly created position that sits at the intersection of bartender and server. You will be stationed behind our fully equipped bar. You own every drink that leaves it. You prepare all beverages, deliver them to tables in glass, upsell our bar menu to every dine-in guest, handle refills proactively, and close guest checks tableside using a handheld device. You are the hospitality anchor of our dining room. This is a role for someone who understands that going above and beyond is not optional. It is the standard.

Pay and Compensation

Base pay: $15.41 to $18.29 per hour based on experience
Pay frequency: Weekly direct deposit
Tips: You keep 70% of all tips you generate. 30% is distributed to the supporting team through our tip pool program
Bar commission: 8% on all alcohol sales you personally ring, activating at week five
Merchandise commission: 10% on all merchandise you personally sell, active from your first shift
Both commissions are calculated weekly and paid with your regular check
Team meal provided on every shift
Staff discount on all Bag Lady's food and merchandise

What You Will Do

Operate as the primary beverage lead during your shift, stationed behind the bar between all table deliveries
Prepare all dine-in beverages including non-alcoholic drinks, cocktails, and beer and deliver every order to the table in glass
Greet every table with warmth and confidence, confirm their order, and make a genuine recommendation to add a drink from our bar menu
Monitor the dining room from your station and make proactive floor visits for refills before guests have to ask
Upsell the bar program and branded merchandise at every opportunity in a natural and hospitable way
Process all guest payments tableside using a handheld point of sale device and close all dine-in checks at the table
Ring all merchandise sales through your assigned device for proper commission tracking
Maintain the bar clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout your entire shift
Prep cocktail components before peak service periods as directed by management
Comply fully with Tennessee ABC regulations including responsible service, monitoring guest consumption, and refusing service when appropriate
Declare all cash tips at the end of each shift in compliance with federal tip reporting requirements
Communicate openly with the General Manager about guest concerns, bar supply needs, and any operational challenges

Requirements

Active Tennessee ABC Server Permit is required before your first shift. Applications without a current and valid permit will not be considered. There are no exceptions.

Active Tennessee ABC Server Permit, valid and current at time of hire
Must be 21 years of age or older
Minimum two years of experience in a hospitality role including bar service, table service, or both
Demonstrated ability to deliver warm, genuine, guest-first service in a fast-paced environment
Proven ability to upsell in a service environment without it feeling forced
Confidence making drink recommendations to guests in a natural, conversational way
Experience with a handheld or tableside point of sale system preferred
Ability to move efficiently between the bar and dining room without losing control of either
Composure and professionalism during high-volume service periods
A genuine drive to exceed expectations, not simply meet them
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds
Reliable transportation to 1402 Buchanan St, Nashville, TN 37208

Schedule

Part-time, 20 to 35 hours per week
Two positions available
Friday and Saturday evening availability is required
Wednesday through Sunday availability is strongly preferred
Sunday 10:30am to 4:00pm
Monday through Thursday 10:30am to 8:00pm
Friday and Saturday 10:30am to 10:00pm

Employment is at-will
This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime at one and one-half times the regular rate for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek
This position participates in a mandatory tip pool in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable Tennessee law. Salaried managers are excluded from the pool. Full tip pool documentation will be provided and signed before your first shift
Bar commission activates at week five. Merchandise commission is active from day one. Both are subject to review with written notice
All offers of employment are contingent upon verification of an active Tennessee ABC Server Permit prior to the start date
In compliance with federal law effective July 4, 2025, all tips including cash tips must be reported. Cash tips must be declared at the end of each shift
