Position: PE, Health, and Wellness TeacherReports to: Director of Elementary and Middle SchoolClassification: ExemptSupervises: NoneScope of Work: Provides classroom instruction in one of the specialty areas and helps plan events specifically related to their instructional focusExperience Requirements: - Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing- Experience teaching in specific content area - 2 years classroom teaching experience preferred- Must be comfortable working in a culturally diverse environment and committed to embracing differences and valuing multiple perspectivesEducation/Certification Requirements: - Bachelors Degree- Clear CORI and MA fingerprinting- General Responsibilities: Design and prepare an inviting and challenging environment using a full array of content specific materials, texts, and online applications. Prepare students for achievement in your content area: World Language, Art, Music, PE, Nature or Design Lab/STEM as well as for their safety and well being. Communicate and collaborate with families and colleagues regarding the progress of students and their individualized learning needs. Specific Responsibilities: Specialist Program & Student Services: Demonstrate competency with methods and learning in your specialtyPlan and implement curriculum appropriate to your specialtyCollaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists in innovating new curricula or areas of studyPrepare an environment in which furnishings and materials are complete and correspond to the needs of the classSet clear expectations for responsibilities and class routinesGive lessons to students in groups (and to individual students as applicable)Prepare students for school events such as the Art and Design Showcase, Winter and Spring Concerts, Spanish Assembly, Toddler Olympics, Field Day, dLab Shark Tank, etc.Teach extensions to the curriculum as needed such as Open Studio.

(may be included as part of the After School Enrichment Program)Recognize when students are not progressing as expected and communicate this to administration and families for collaboration and follow-upFollow recommendations for students with an IEP, 504, neuropsych evaluation, or who receive support through a specialist (Early Intervention, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, etc.) and ensure that they have the supports in place to be successfulSupport students with individual behavioral plansTrain and supervise children regarding emergency practices such as fire drillsConstituent Relations: Build productive relationships with parents through parent education events and parent meetings if concerns ariseBuild positive relations with community organizations to support specific classroom curriculum and service learningAdministration: Prepare progress reports for each child (twice yearly) to assess skills and progress in your area of studySubmit progress reports to administrationMaintain class attendance Work collaboratively with administration to address concerns regarding students, parents and staffReport all accidents/ incidents to administration and complete accident forms as neededAttend weekly faculty meetings and specialist meetings as scheduledAttend all mandatory eventsPerform recess dutiesSchool CultureDemonstrate a strong commitment to professional ethicsDemonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Montessori Education by modeling the Montessori values of grace and courtesy, respect and responsibility in visible daily actionsDemonstrate commitment to competent communications and conflict resolution efforts across the school communityProtect the privacy and confidentiality of each student, parent and colleagueAssist in planning school events, including Family Fundays which occur four times a yearProfessional DevelopmentAttend in-service training as provided by Riverbend SchoolAttend one goal-related conference per year to further professional developmentOtherTake on duties as assignedIt is expected that all staff will function as self-directed members in a team effort. All performances should meet appropriate professional standards and adhere to the philosophy and mission of Riverbend School.Mobility & Engagement: Frequently moving about the campus to follow the school schedule, including ascending/descending stairs and transitioning between indoor and outdoor spaces.Student Interaction: The ability to position oneself at a childs level (e.g., kneeling, sitting, or crouching) and assist students with daily tasks like zipping jackets, tying shoes, or managing materials.Supervision: Effectively monitoring students during recess and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.Physical Assistance: Occasionally moving or lifting classroom materials or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.Sensory & Focus: Maintaining focus and safety in a moderately noisy environment with frequent interruptions; specific vision capabilities are required to ensure student safety and accurate record-keeping.
