The Telecommunicator (911 Dispatcher) is a first line emergency response role, responsible for dispatching incoming calls to police, fire, EMS, etc. Newly hired employees are paid their base salary to attend extensive training where they will learn all the skills and tools required to be successful in this role. Per union contract, Telecommunicator (911 Dispatcher) base salary is $21.18 per hour ($44,047 per year) plus shift differentials for nights or weekends. Voluntary overtime is available; both voluntary and mandatory overtime are paid at time and a half. Schedules require employees work every other weekend.
Paid time off: new employees will accrue ten (10) vacation days per year at 0.83 hours per compensable month of active employment. All employees are paid for nine and a half (9½) holidays per year. Eight (8) hours of sick time are also accrued each month of active employment. Employees will receive forty-eight (48) hours of personal leave upon hire, and at every new calendar year; unused personal time does not roll over.

In order to be considered for this position, candidate must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) and complete an application on our site. Once the application is screened, qualified candidates will be notified via email that they need to schedule their written exam for one of the available timeslots via our website. The exam is held onsite in Easton, PA, and is an in-person computer simulation of sample tasks performed in this role in order to measure attention to detail, skill for interpreting information, and ability to prioritize.
In order to pass the exam, test-taker must be able to: read, write, hear, and understand English; use a personal computer; type at least twenty-five (25) words per minute; and successfully follow the instructions provided for each section of the exam without assistance. Since the exam is a simulation there are no study materials available, but applicants may reapply and take the test up to three (3) times total per year.
Upon passing the exam, candidate’s information will be forwarded to the hiring manager and then be scheduled for an interview. If the hiring manager selects the candidate to proceed with the hiring process, manager will coordinate remaining pre-employment process with candidate for Telecommunicator (911 Dispatcher).
