Position Summary
Teklus Construction is seeking an experienced Operations Superintendent to oversee field operations, workforce coordination, and project execution. The Operations Superintendent has overall accountability for the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of Dugout Operations during the assigned shift. This position directs all on-shift personnel; coordinates with client representatives and trade partners; manages both initial-installation and ongoing-operating activities; monitors weather and ambient conditions to inform client access decisions; and serves as the senior Teklus Construction representative on site during the shift. The Operations Superintendent ensures tarping and door-opening operations meet project requirements, regulatory standards, and client expectations.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
- Direct overall shift operations for Dugout Operations, including initial tarp installation activities, ongoing tarp activities, and door-access support.
- Monitor weather, wind, precipitation, and ambient conditions on a continuous basis and communicate status and changes to client operations leads through group chats, verbal communication, and written means; coordinate stop-work or condition-driven adjustments as necessary.
- Serve as the senior on-shift Teklus point of contact with client representatives, trade partners, and authorized escort personnel for access coordination and operational alignment.
- Lead the shift's participation in daily logistics briefings; review the day's planned activities and align the shift plan accordingly.
- Develop and adjust shift schedules, manpower allocations, and support-team deployments to meet project objectives across both operational phases.
- Make real-time operational decisions regarding sequencing, manpower, equipment, and method to meet operational and safety objectives.
- Enforce wind, temperature, and precipitation operating constraints across the shift; authorize pauses, stand-downs, or method changes when ambient conditions warrant.
- Ensure shift turnover documentation is complete, accurate, and effectively communicated to the incoming shift, including condition changes, in-progress activities, and outstanding requests.
- Monitor and manage shift operational metrics, quality outcomes, and safety performance; intervene as needed.
- Lead immediate response to incidents, equipment failures, and operational disruptions during the shift.
General Industry Responsibilities
- Enforce site safety program, stop-work authority, and EHS standards across all on-shift personnel.
- Conduct daily site walks and document field conditions, work progress, and observations.
- Coordinate with project management on schedule, budget, scope, and resource needs.
- Review and approve crew timecards, daily reports, equipment logs, and operational records.
- Support change order documentation, RFIs, and field directive logging.
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
- Maintain professional client communication and represent Teklus Construction during the shift.
- Mentor and develop Operations Leads and Technicians; identify high performers and development needs.
- Support subcontractor coordination, performance management, and compliance with project requirements.
- Manage shift-level adherence to project quality standards and address quality issues at the source.
- Wear, inspect, and properly maintain all required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and fall protection equipment as required by task.
- Participate in pre-shift safety huddles, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Comply with OSHA standards, Teklus Construction safety policies, and client-specific site requirements.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, and hazard communication procedures.
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are observed and report hazards, near-misses, and incidents immediately.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow established housekeeping standards.
- Report to shift on time, prepared, and fit for duty.
- Conduct accurate shift turnover with incoming and outgoing personnel, including verbal briefing and written log entries.
- Support cross-shift consistency by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Communicate operational status, equipment condition, and material flow to supervisors throughout the shift.
- Complete required documentation including daily reports, inspection logs, and timekeeping records.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of construction, heavy industrial, or material handling supervisory experience, with at least 2 years as a Superintendent or comparable role.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Demonstrated leadership of multi-person crews, including direct and indirect reports.
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with daily reporting tools, scheduling software (e.g., Procore, Primavera, MS Project), and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- STSC, CHST, or comparable safety certification.
- Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer.
- Experience managing 24/7 operations, shift transitions, and client-facing field operations.
- Prior experience supervising tarping, fall protection, or access door operations in a construction or industrial setting.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, bend, stoop, and work overhead for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate fall protection and training.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- Tolerance for exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and proximity to moving equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs.
Shift Coverage
This position operates on a 24/7 schedule with positions filled across all three shifts:
- 1st Shift (Day) — 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- 2nd Shift (Swing) — 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- 3rd Shift (Night) — 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM
Shift differential pay may apply for 2nd and 3rd shift positions per company policy.
