URGENTLY HIRING Senior Landscape Designer / Technical Designer
Job Type: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary, or Contract
Full-Time Compensation: $65,000-$80,000 annually, based on experience
Contract/Part-Time Compensation: Based on experience and proposed working arrangement
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced senior-level technical designer to support our custom residential design/build team.
This is not an entry-level or recent-graduate position. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience producing technical drawings and construction documents. 7-10+ years of experience is strongly preferred.
We are looking for someone who understands how creative design translates into accurate, detailed, and buildable construction documents. The ideal candidate has substantial real-world experience with residential construction, architecture, landscape architecture, or design/build and can work with a high degree of independence.
This is not a commission-based sales position. Our primary need is technical design, problem-solving, and construction-document production.
We are open to a contract arrangement for the right candidate. Our priority is finding an experienced professional with the technical capability to contribute at a senior level and integrate into our existing design/build process.
What You'll Do
- Develop detailed landscape plans and construction documents using AutoCAD
- Translate approved design concepts into accurate, buildable drawing sets
- Produce dimensioned plans, elevations, sections, construction details, and material layouts
- Review site measurements, existing conditions, architectural plans, and supporting project documentation
- Prepare and revise drawings for HOA approval and construction
- Develop technical details for custom landscape elements, including hardscape, masonry, walls, columns, steps, outdoor kitchens, fire features, water features, structures, irrigation, drainage, lighting, and planting
- Coordinate landscape drawings with pools, structures, utilities, architecture, and other trades
- Independently identify constructability concerns, drawing conflicts, discrepancies, and missing information before plans reach the field
- Assist with takeoffs, quantities, specifications, and technical information needed for estimating
- Research materials and coordinate technical information with vendors and subcontractors
- Revise plans throughout design development and construction
- Provide technical support and problem-solving to project management and field teams during construction
- Participate in site evaluations and field verification as needed
- Work collaboratively with designers, coordinators, field management, subcontractors, vendors, and company leadership
- Learn and work within our established processes while contributing professional experience and helping strengthen our technical standards
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in architecture, landscape architecture, residential design, construction documentation, or a closely related field
- 7-10+ years of relevant experience strongly preferred
- Advanced AutoCAD proficiency
- Demonstrated professional experience producing complete construction-document sets
- Strong understanding of construction detailing, dimensions, elevations, scale, materials, and constructability
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and landscape plans
- Strong understanding of residential construction and coordination between trades
- Ability to take established design intent and independently develop detailed technical documentation
- Ability to identify discrepancies and solve technical problems with limited oversight
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage revisions and multiple active projects simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Additional Experience We Value
- High-end custom residential construction
- Landscape design/build or landscape architecture
- Land F/X
- Structure Studios
- SketchUp or comparable 3D software
- Grading and drainage
- Irrigation and low-voltage lighting
- Hardscape and masonry construction
- HOA documentation and submittals
A degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Design, Construction, or a related field is preferred, but demonstrated technical capability and substantial professional experience are more important to us than a specific degree or license.
Architectural or Landscape Architectural licensure is welcome but not required.
Employment Structure
We recognize that experienced technical professionals work in different capacities. We are open to discussing permanent full-time employment, part-time employment, temporary/project-based employment, or an independent contract arrangement.
For full-time candidates, compensation is $65,000-$80,000 annually, depending on experience and demonstrated technical capability.
For part-time, temporary, or contract candidates, compensation and expected hours will be discussed based on experience, availability, and the proposed working arrangement.
Application Requirements
A portfolio or examples of professional technical drawing/construction-document work are required for consideration.
We are particularly interested in reviewing:
- Complete or partial construction-document sets
- Dimensioned plans
- Sections and elevations
- Construction details
- Hardscape or architectural detailing
- Examples demonstrating coordination between multiple trades or disciplines
Rendering portfolios alone will not demonstrate the technical experience required for this position.
We are looking for an experienced professional who can do more than create a beautiful design. We need someone who understands how it goes together, how it gets documented, and how it gets built.
