Job Title: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist Sleep Technician
Location: Sleep Center of Nevada - Buffalo, Charleston, Green Valley, and Fort Apache Locations
Schedule: Four 10 hour Night Shifts
Job Summary:
The Sleep Technician is responsible for conducting overnight sleep studies to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. This role involves preparing patients, monitoring physiological data during sleep studies, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and collaborating with physicians and clinical staff to produce accurate diagnostic information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review patient's medical history, allergies, current medications, patient questionnaire.
- Explain procedures to patient before, during and after sleep study.
- Apply and calibrate monitoring equipment (EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory sensors) to patient.
- Monitor and record observations of patient via video for any unusual sleep behaviors.
- Gather artifact-free polysomnographic data; trouble shoot any artifacts and provide correction.
- Recognize normal and abnormal sleep patterns.
- Ability to correctly interpret physiologic tracings and to quickly make a decision to intervene regarding an emergency situation or potential for an emergency situation.
- Score various aspects of the sleep study according to established guidelines and send to physician for interpretation.
- Prepare reports for physician interpretation.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages including pediatric through geriatric.
- Maintain and operate all Sleep Lab equipment safely and correctly. Inspect and test Sleep Lab equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a good working relationship with Sleep Lab staff and other departments.
- Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Stay current in field through continuing education, seminars, professional journals and societies.
- Ensure patient forms and billing information is completed in an expedient manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
· High School Diploma
· Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of protocols for CPAP therapy.
- Knowledge of protocols for oxygen therapy.
- Understanding of common sleep disorders and treatment options.
- Knowledge of Sleep Lab equipment, its function and purpose, including calibration.
- Patient Care Experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
